My daughter recently has been putting on weight at an alarming rate. I do worry about little phoebe. I always catch her in the kitchen in between meals. I think it is time for a change in diet for this whole family and cut down on buying unhealthy foods.

My son is 12 years old. He plays on the schools basketball team, soccer team, and started going to the gym a couple times a week for cardio. However, he weighs 180. He is almost 6 feet tall and already wears a size 11 shoe. The doctor has never even mentioned his weight. Even though he is active I am starting to get very concerned. Any suggestions?

My daughter is 11 and weighs 122 pounds she wants to lose weight, but it is not working, she always snacks at night. I think her legs are fine, she doesn't, but I have noticed that her stomach got a little big lately. How can she lose at least 30 pounds. (That is how much she wants to lose)

I have four boys, but only my youngest son has a weight problem. He is currently 4'11 and 197lbs, so not just chubby, but sadly very obese :( . He has always been this way, short and overweight, whereas his older brothers are all much taller, very into their sports and healthy weights. It breaks my heart seeing the difference between them, but other than my 18 year old son, they're not very supportive towards him or helpful in getting him to lose weight.
Anyway, Inbetween the constant battle to get him slim down, I have a question that no doctor has yet been able to answer. David (my overweight son) eats too much, but so do all his brothers too, and all the food in my house is healthy (except for a locked cupboard of goodies). He doesn't get a lot of his own money so he isn't tempted into buying junk (he agreed to this as well and gets me to save his allowance now). Anyway, even... (view more)

My son Theodore is overweight/obese he is currently 4"11 133. Someone of his friends who is the valedictorian at a very good prep school (did this skipping a grade) saw that our son was overweight and was pick on by other friends. He also told me that he saw that he wasn't breathing normally. So a few weeks after that my wife and I are out of town and Theo had a checkup at the doctor so we have our friends son bring him and the doctors told him and his family that he has many obesity like diseases linked to the test they did. I encourage him to go outside but the never does he just sits inside all day watching T.V and when that friend comes over a very good soccer player (2 year up on #2 team in country) ,lacrosse and basketball player is kind of getting upset that he never goes outside. I need help to fix these problem such as losing friends and the health problem!!!

I believe our daughter's eating disorder is too much for me to deal with. My daughter is having her menstral period and she is craving sweets to the tenth-degree. She rode my bike to meet a friend and came back with a half a bag of marshmallows. I saw them and threw them in the trash. She said that I owe her $2.oo, hollering that we are ruining her life!...and started shaking the trash bag to retrieve the individual pieces of marshmallows from the trash. I am at a lost for what to do anymore. Please advise.

Hi. I'm not a parent but I am a child who is overweight. I was a little skinny until I was around 8 or 9 and I gained a bit of weight and I don't know what happened. I am now trying to lose about 20-30 pounds because I am 4 feet and 10 inches (147.5 cm) and I last weighed 128 pounds and I was weighed last month. I haven't lost any weight that I can see but I also haven't done much about it. I am looking for some diets to try that aren't very extreme and or some exercises I can do. What are somethings that worked for your children? Weight is something I feel is a scary topic and I want to feel good about myself again. I want my life back and I think my health should be coming first. Thanks for listening and thank you for helping.

I just wanted to give y'all a happy update. In 2014 I wrote on here about my obese daughter becoming pregnant. At the time she was around 300 pounds and by the time the baby was born (overdue at 41 weeks) my daughter had lost 20 pounds by making a lifestyle change for the sake of her daughter. Obviously, it is hard to be pregnant at any age, but being obese, and 16 at the time…it wasn't easy. She started eating healthy foods and cut out the junk, and she started going on walks early in the pregnancy. She said she wanted to loose weight to be able to take maternity pictures and see the bump because she carried a lot of fat in the belly area. Even though she only lost around 20 pounds, it made a difference and you could see her bump and she got to take the pictures she wanted. They are very beautiful and she looks clearly pregnant not just a girl with a fat belly. Some people thought it... (view more)

My son is obese, he is 12. He has a hard time doing anything physical. I could really use some clever advice on how to get my child to WANT to be active. He does not like team sports and walking is "boring" to him. I am so unsure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

All she does is eat, and sit on her laptop, she doesnt play, or participate in any physical activity. Im very concerned for her but any time I bring it up to her grandmother that is raising her she throws a fit and says we are liying about her weight. the 220 pounds is what she weighed at the doctors office a couple months ago. I dont know what to do or how to help. any advice?

I am starting to get really worried about my 10 year old son. He is 10 and weighs almost 150. Family on my side and his Fathers side has zero weight issues what so ever. My son was borderline under weight until he was about 8 years old but in the last 16 months he has doubled his weight... that's 75 lbs in 16 months!! He plays sports (Baseball and Lacrosse and really wants to play football and hockey) Last month I insisted that his thyroid be tested but everything came back fine. We eat well balanced meals, he gets exercise and has a good bill of health... What am I missing? What could possibly be going on with my boy? Please any suggestions or comments will be appreciated greatly!!

Does anyone else have issues getting their child to realize how overweight they are? My extremely obese daughhter has yearbook pictures being taken at school today, and plans to wear an outfit that makes her massive body look even more fat. The skirt lets you see her big, jiggly thighs, her huge belly is easily visible through the fabric, and her 'wide' rear is accentuated by the way the skirt presses against it. I asked her why she would dress so, she said that the clothes were similar to what her friends would be wearing. Her friends are quite plump themselves, I wonder if she notices how obese she is? She is substantially larger than her friends, but she doesn't seem to notice. Is anyone else in a similar predicament?
