Hi, my son Michael is overweight and it seems to be getting worse. He's never said that he's unhappy with being overweight though, so I never did anything. Before the summer holidays started he was already 196lbs; he's always been sedentary (unfortunatly a trait he gets from me and my wife, although we are not overweight) and hes been even more so over the holiday so far. He's now 215lbs - 19lbs up since the holidays began, he got out of school on the 1st June, so its been over a month and a half but still this is the most he's put on at one time. I've noticed a lot of new stretchmarks on his body recently and his double chin seems more pronounced and I'm worried he might start getting teased at school (although this may just be me being paranoid as a parent - he's never been teased about his weight to my knowledge). His clothes as well seem tighter, some t-shirts are practically hugging... (view more)

My daughter is 14 and is just eating herself into what I feel is an early grave. She has been to the doctor and the doctor has put her on a diet, that has not helped. I had to change everything that I buy in the house I had to change the diet of my younger two children just to encourage my daughter. Although I never cooked fried foods, or let them have a lot of junk food she still eat out of control. If you don't finish your food on your plate she will eat her food and the left overs on everyone else's plate. She is up all night eating she constantly eat all day. She has high cholesterol at the age of 14 and has now started having blood pressure problems. She weighs more than I do which is sad she is 265 and 5'8" I am 135 5'6". I have constantly told her that food is not her friend and if she has problems please come to me and talk about it don't try to eat it away. I work out a... (view more)

Parents. I think I have a suggestion to your problems. I think its important rather than freakig out about your childs weight, to offer support to them. My family has offered support to me and its helps me alot when trying to lose weight. Do what my parents did. Throw out all the junk food in the house, next take your child shopping and have them pick out low fat foods that they would be interested in trying. Finally, Its hard on an overweight kid to exercise by themself. Me and My family including my younger brother, have started going on an hour long bike ride together around the neighborhood. Have the entire family involved in exercise with your overweight son or daugter. My entire family, my mom my dad and my younger 14 year old brother are all skinny, but it helps that they exercise with me to keep me motivated. One more thing to throw out there. If you are a parent of an Overweight... (view more)

An update on my daughter: I have posted here several times about my daughter Lisa.
But since January things went really bad. I talked to my daughter about going to a doctor. But she refused, as she is embarrased about her body. So I didn't took her.
Since than she became bigger and bigger. She is constantly eating and is buying herself chocolate, chips and ice-crea,. She turned 10 last month and I talked her into going on the scale again. She is now 4.8 and weights in at 208 pounds. She wears clothes in plus size women 22.
She has no friends and is teased at school about her weight. Now that summer vacation is here she just sits at home, reads books and is constantly eating. I' m really concerned about her. She can only walk for about 5 minutes and than gets tired. The biggest problem seems to be her belly, as most of the weight is in her belly. It measures 63 inches. She... (view more)

My son is six years old and he weighs 75 pounds he is short in height. My concern is that he does not eat a lot of food, but yet he is still gaining. His food consists of a lot of fruit in his diet and regular foods such as eggs, bacon, toast, cereal, brocolli, chicken, spaghetti. He doesnt eat a lot of fast or junk foods. If you have any suggestions please reply to my bulletin.

Hello, does any parent have a child that has Acanthosis Nigrican? My son is obese and has this.We will be seeing a specialist in a few weeks. He has a dark ring around his neck.I thought it was just dirt but the more I scrubbed I could see that it was his skin color.I know this has something to do with obesity and was looking for another parent to talk to.

I am very worryed about my daughter. she is 15 and about 180. Last summer she was about 190 and then became annerexic. I am only so sorry i dident see all the signs before it got to the point that we had to check our child into a rehap center for treatment. She got out and gaind'd back to 180. I think now she is not eating again but i dont know how to talk to her about to issue. i want her to know that not eating is not how you lose weight. i was thinking about maybe having a talk with her boyfriend about the issu and thought he could maybe help encourage her that she is beautiful the way she is but if she dose want to lose there are better ways. any ideas or suggestions if my idea might work? thank you for the help
