I am a teen and for everyone that wants to help there kid/teen heres some advice. Don't say anything about there weight because that gets them mad at you and triggers them to eat just to make you mad. If you want to help them go to the grocery store and get healthy foods. Not mac and cheese, cookies, or pizza. Get something fresh, a galon of fat free milk, some fat free ranch to go with salad or veggies. Then plan a outdoor activity with them. If it's raining take them bowling. Do something active. Make it fun for them to be healthy. Make it something they can do and want to do. Give them the tools to be healthy and let them do it on their own. Last thing. Make sure you have bottles of water in your home. Not Juice or diet soda...WATER!! make sure they can always have water. I really hope I have helped someone on this board to help their child with weight loss.

As i bowsed this site, i came to notice that many of you treat your children like they are unintelligent and have no self control because of this problem. You need to first recognize that this is a PROBLEM. It's not only an emotional but a physical problem. I have lost 50 pounds by frist bringing myself out of denial. If your child is eating uncontrollably, there's a reason. Try and help them by talking to them, not alienating them. And do not continnuosly bring up weight with them. From personal experience, I have learned all of this to be completely true. If any of you re actually interested in helping your child, instead of making them out to be uncontrollable reckless kids, please feel free to ask my advice in this forum. Thank you, Gabby.

Hello,I know I am new to the board but I have been reading it for a long time.I don't understand why people get on this board and try to hurt people. We are here because we need help for our children.Perhaps suggestions and encouragment from others in our situation.Personally speaking I'll be the first to admit my childs obesity problem is my fault.I buy the food and at the age of seven its my responsibilty for his nutrition.I too am overweight and feel so guilty. My point is sometimes WE dig a hole for ourselves and our children. Before we know it,were in trouble. All we can do is love them unconditionally and help them.

Hi! I'm really worried about my daughter. She always has been overweight. She was at a weight loss camp last summer and lost quite an amount of weight and when she got home we continued with the diet. But over the holidays she really stuffed herself and is now bigger than ever. She ist currently 4 foot and 5 inches and weights in at 192 pounds. She was really shocked, when she saw that number on the scale. And I was shocked too. Her belly lookes so bloated and she says it has become so heavy, she constantly holds it, when she walks.
Please help my little girl!

I am having a problem my daughter is too big to fit in the little girls clothes but too small for the juniors clothes. I cannot find any plus size for little girls in my area. Any suggestions as to where to look. She is 4 feet 6 inches and weighs around 105 lbs. She is still developing and her belly is large making it difficult for any of the pants to fit and most of the shirts make her belly look huge. She is on sterrhoids a lot due to asthma, so she can gain weight rapidly but she loses it after she goes off the medicine so I really would prefer jeans with an elastic waist (very hard to find here in any size). Any suggestions?

hey my daughter really needs help. i dont like going into her personal buisiness but she is gaining way too much weight.she is 178 pounds, and its all in the belly and thighs.my wife and i are both normal weight, so i don't know why this is happening to her. we go indoor swimming alot, so whenever we go swimming and she wears a one peice, her belly really shows. also, at the doctor, the doctor measured how far out her stomach was, and it was a foot long from her back to the end of her stomach. and that's when she was sitting down. should i post a picture? do you think it is bad?

HI, I am not a parent of an overweight child but I would like your advice! I am a trainee clinical Psychologist in the UK and I am about to do some research into childhood obesity; parents persepective. I am taking a non-blaming, sensitive approach to this research. It is not about value judgements but rather a want to understand and represent the views of parents of an overweight child; whether they see it as a problem or not.
I understand this is a sensitive topic for some and wonder how I can best engage parents to take part in this research. What do you think? I would greatly appreciate any input, positive or negative.

I have been concerned that my daughter is overweight at 140lbs. When I looked at some of the children on this website I see that she is not as seriously overweight as some of the ones here. When walking up a hill she does however get out of breath before I do. The amount that she is overweight is steadily climbing and she I think is headed for a serious weight problem. She doesn't seem to want healthy foods, and likes a diet of pizza. Her mother and I are both diabetics and she is at risk of going that way. The key here is I want her to change her diet willingly. I have been eating healthy foods myself and trying to set an example. She doesn't seem to like salads. She seems to understand but has a hard time putting it into practice.

If your child is overweight dont force them into losing weight. my mom never really said anything to make me lose weight; i just happened to go on the scale at school when we were getting weighed for gym class and i was so embarassed that i weighed 170 lb. and i had gained 4lbs by next time i weighed myself and decided i needed to do something if i didnt want to end up like my dad. He died of a heart attack at the age of 46. My mom has supported me a little, she buys me the food i want, but at the same time she makes it harder by still buying junk food for the rest of the family and herself. She is also trying to lose weight, but having no success, but i know that's because she's not eating nearly enough carbs. If you're worried about not burning carbs, eat them in the morning, and lighter foods at night. then you'll actually use them for the energy. I come from a family of overweight... (view more)

Hi. My daughter was a normal-weight child until last year. Despite watching portion control and pushing fruits and veggies, and making sure she's moving and active, she's continued to gain weight -- 12-16 lbs in the past 12 months. Her BMI is 93%. The extra weight is beginning to wound her. Yesterday I found her in tears, "Mommy, why is my tummy growing so big." We went to the Dr. last Christmas and were not taken seriously..."she'll grow into her new weight soon." We went back in a few weeks ago and they, too, are beginning to get concerned. A urine test and blood work did not show any sugar or ketons and her thyroid levels were fine. Our family history does not include any obesity except for one aunt...a great-aunt for her who wrestled with being overweight from toddlerhood. Help! Any suggestions or recommendations medically? Can anyone suggest a good book on body image for a young child? Thanks!
