Since the new year my son has put on 30 pounds. It came as a bit of a shock after going to the doctors yesterday. It seems though that he doesn't care at all that he has gone from an average 130 to 160. He has outgrown all of his pants and most of his shirts. I'm trying to get him motivated but it seems like he doesn't care -- like he almost wants to gain weight. Help me before my child becomes obese!

Is it common for boys to out grow there pants in about a year? And I don't mean by height, I mean by the waist size.

I wanted input from some other parents about this. My son has always worn his pants around his belly (as opposed to under it like to let his belly hang over), but he has recently put on alot more weight and the waist size needed to go around his belly as opposed to under his belly is much larger. I told him that I think he should wear his pants lower but he said it makes him look fatter if his belly hangs over his pants. How do your boys wear their pants? Any insight?

My daughter is now 12 years old, right at 5 foot and about 165lbs. She had her tonsils and adnoids taken out when she was 7, and has just piled on the weight since then. Over just the last 2 months, she has gained roughly 20lbs. She has deep deep purple stretch marks on her arms, boobs, butt, waist, legs, and back. I have had 2 children, and my stretchmarks are not as bad as hers. We monitor EVERYTHING that she eats. We control portions, we don't eat tons of junk and this poor little girl is more active in sports and dancing than anyone else I have ever seen. There is not anytime of the year or in a day where she is not doing something. She even has afterschool chores to do for at least an hour, just to keep her busy, so that she isn't wathing too much TV. She is only allowed to watch TV for 1.5 a day. We don't play video games, or just sit around all of the time. She is always... (view more)

My son David is 6yrs and is 48" tall and weight 92 lbs. He has adhd and a learning disablity. David is the most loving and out going of my other boys. He would love to wear jeans like his brothers, but I am having a very hard time finding jeans that fit him. If anyone has any suggestion to where I can find some please let me know, thanks

Hi! Did you know that if your child loses the weight before puberty he/she is less likely to suffer from many self-esteem problems for the rest of their life.

My son is approximately 75 pounds. He gained the majority of his weight after having his tounsils and adnoids removed. I don't keep twinkies in the house and he really isn't that big of a junk food eater. He consumes about 200 calories at breakfast and around 500 at lunch. He's become self conscious about his weight and it hurts me to see him this way and I don't like discussing it in front of him. He is the kind of child that will obsess over this as he already has some gross and fine motor skill issues that appeared once he turned 4. He could no longer run properly, had problems holding a pencil...etc. These problems did not exist prior to the surgery but there is nothing neurologically wrong with him. He has OT and Therapeutic PE and is currently in Pre First due to his motor disfunction--not his cognitive capabilities. He loves sports but gets winded and frustrated because he is very... I previously wrote worried that my son was having prob. with elevated liver enzymes, well a change in diet and discipline and now his levels are NORMAL. AND he lost 1/2 pound. He doesn't like what I serve and refuses to eat. I found that if I stick to my guns and refuse to prepare him a special meal he eventually will eat what is served! He is eating alot less crap these days and playing outside alot more now that the weather is so beautiful. I am thankful for this board and the folks who offered me advice. we still have a long way to go.

Just so the parents that actually get on here know, you might want to watch out for people looking for your kids emails. These are people with a fat fetish.
Not to alarm anyone, or offend anyone I know that there are some people that actually help you and give good advice; but I have gone over alot of the messages and threads and alot of the stuff written does not seem like they were written by parents.
Just do not be so fast to give out emails and such.
Thank you for reading over this.

My daughter is 7 years old and she's about 4'6 and weights 135lbs. I don't know any other kids her age that are this tall or this heavy. She weights more than I do, and she can eat more than I can. How do I explain to her that she is too big without hurting her self esteem? I don't know what kind of diet to put her on or how to explain to her that she can't eat all the things she wants to. Its so hard to explain health issues to a seven year old. I have always been thin, and that makes it harder to understand why she is so big. I worry so much about her, she hates to exercise and when she does her breathing gets heavy and her heart rate goes way up. any advice would be great, I don't know anyone else in the situation to talk to thanks

samantha is now trying to lose weight, because she went to this overweight discussion, and it showed her all the negatives about being overweight. Her and her sister have been excersizing together, and samantha has lost 3 pound in a week so far. I am very glad that she is taking this seriously.
