I am SO Happy. My son Jack (whom this post is about) was acquitted of drug charges yesterday. I am SO Happy. But his weight is still such a concern

I only would have one worry about parents getting childern to lose weight, their self esteem. If you tell them to lose weight they could feel like their not good enough, disgusting, worthless, a pig. So remember when asking or telling them to lose weight remember to be nice and remind them that it's not because their ugly or anything it's just for their health and nothing other than that.

TO ALL NEW PARENTS ON THE BOARD: The age of teh child is in the corner of the name who posted. It says "Your childs age" that is where u put ur child's age. Incase some parents didn't know.

After reading all your stories, my concern seems so trivial. But I would still like some advice if at all possible. My son, Jack, is wonderfully gifted. He is at boarding school but I and his father see him frequently (about 1-3 times a month). My husband, myself, and my other seven children are extremely athletic. However, Jack our third of eight total children is not so. He finds it a waste of time. He gets straight A's in extremely difficult AP and honors classes and for that I am beyond proud of him. However, he is 5 foot 9 and weighs 200-215 pounds (being he is away I am not exactly sure but he is in that range). He has a large gut but a relatively flat chest. He wears a size 36 (tight) dockers or size 38 (loose) dockers so I am guesing his waist about 37 inches. He is extremly confident about his appearence and has no plans to lose weight. I have truly no idea what to do. Being he ... (view more)

Hello, my 16 year-old daughter, Jaime, has recently had me worried over her weight. She is incredibly beautiful, yet I'm worried for her health she is 5'11'' tall and weighs 210 pounds, which worries me. She doesn't look like she weighs that though. She doesn't have a 'gut' or stretchmarks yet. She has great muscle tone and is on the track, basketball, and volleyball team, yet her 33 inch waist is tormenting her and her doctors. I'm not sure how I can address this issue with her. Help would be wonderful.

Things haven't been going so well with Jason. I recently found out I am pregnant, which is exciting and great news for Ben and I, but after telling Jason, he exploded at me, accussing me of trying to get rid of him by having another child. He got so upset, he threw a chair accross the room and then he left and was gone for 3 days. My best guess was that he went and stayed with one of his friends that lives about an hour away from us, but I don't know. We had the police out looking for him for the 3 days he was gone. When he finally did come back, he apologized for exploding, gave me a hug, told me he was happy for me, and then went to bed. Since the day he came back, Jason has been very depressed and just all around unhappy. 2 nights ago, he went out to a party, and he didn't return until 4 a.m. And he was drunk as all hell...he reaked of beer and pot smoke. But he paid for it the next... (view more)

I am here asking for advice. My son who is 12 years old has ben at a normal weight for most his life, but now i am getting worried. in Sept. I had to take him to the doctor for his school check up and then he was 5'0 and 118lbs, which was a fairly normal weight. Then in Dec. I thought he was getting a little heavier and i asked him how much he weighed and he said about 120. Just this last week I had to take him to the doctor because he has a pretty bad cold, and I was schocked to learn he now weighes 154lbs. I was also schocked last night i looked in his room and he was in their with out his shirt on and his huge belly was just hanging out, and he had 4 fat folds along his side and when he sat down it just looked bigger. I am very woried becasue he alayse use to be a normal weight and never had a big belly. He eats alot and dosn't exersise very much. I don't know what to do, if any one has suggestions on what i should tell him or what I should do please leave a post.

I know that my daughter is not really a child anymore but I am very concerned about her weight. She is about 5'5" and 250lbs. She was very thin up until the age of about 10 when some things came out about her uncle molesting her. From then on she just gained weight. My side of the family is very thin, but her dads side is quite heavy. I'm not sure if it is a hereditary matter or stress from what happened to her. We had her thyroid tested when she was about 12 and there wasn't anything wrong with it then so I'm not sure what it is. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

My daughter, as with her three siblings, is beyond chunky but eats wisely - no soda or fast foods. We've not made a big deal over her size since both her Mom and I are also bigger. We deal with weight in the context of our total lives - and it works! She is active in school affairs, gets dates, has good grades and is living an essentially balanced life. Might I suggest that this is a constructive approach others might find useful with their larger than normal teens rather thsn focusing soely on weight loss?
