hello everyone. i just wanted to give you parents some advice from a kids point of veiw. im 14 and beginning to healthfully lose some weight. one of the best things you can do for you kids is get the junk food out of the house. believe me, it will help, and if its not there you cant get at it. im sure your kids will find something healthy they can learn to love (personally, i would much rather have a peice of fruit anyway)..and if they ask for something, dont give it to them!!! its your responsibility!! and start making healthy dinners, there are some great low fat cook books out there, and some healthy dishes are great for kids!! also, youve probably heard of 100 calories packs...delicious!! there baked snacks in orea, chips ahoy, ritz snack mix, and tons more, and there only 100 calories and sooo good!! also, popcorn is a great snack..for excerise, start taking family walks after dinner. it will really make a difference and youll even get to spend time as a family. hope i helped!

Hello, my daughter is 12 years old. In one week she gained 5 pounds. She noticed that her belly was getting big so she told me and I said it is perfectly normal during puberty. After our conversation i noticed a big decrease in her appetite and i asked her why she was not eating. She said because i'm fat mom! So we had a little fight about her weight. I said just watch what you eat and no junk food. The problem is that she is not commited enough to be on a diet. She does not want to work out because she has big muscles and she does not want to get bigger muscles. I dont know what else to suggest. She is very upset and does not want to hang out with her friends and we have constant fights about her going to school. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi ive posted on here about my 13 year old son a couple of months agao and have tried many ways to try to get him to loose weight but he just dosn't seem to care about being overweight. When i last posted he was 5'1 and weighed 155lbs but in the last 2 months he has gaind over 25lbs and now weighs 184lbs. I tell him he needs to loose weight and try to get him to excersices and eat more healthy but he just says he dosn't care that he is fat and just keeps gaining weight. I don't want him to be unhealthy. The other day I saw him with his shirt off and his stomach has gone from big to enourmous. I just don't like seeing him overweight. Hes just got fat alover huge thiges, blubbery arms and legs and on his face. He is only 5'1.
Please if anyone has any way i could help him or if you or your kids have any advice for him or me please respond.
Thanks

I have 4 boys all normal weight, but now my youngest one, 12 is getting fat. I just noticed it when we went swimming yesterday. His stomach was jiggling all over. But the worst was when he sat down, his new belly folded down over his waist. I couldn't believe it! His brothers also noticed and were all making fun of him. Later that night I mentioned something to him and he got all upset at me for noticing. I made him get on the scale and could not believe he put on 15 pounds since his last doctors appointment which was 2 months ago. He now weighs 118 and is only 4'11. What should I do???

I'm not a parent, I'm an older brother (age 16) But I thought that since you are all parents you could help me. My younger sister is 11 years old and 150 lbs. My parents don't do anything about her weight, and they let her eat whatever she wants. I have sat down with my parents and talked to them about this, but I always get in trouble for it. I really want my sister to be healthy, because shes really important to me. (I guesss you could say I'm one of those over protective older brothers). I don't want anything to happen to her, and it hurts me to see my little sister suffering from being overweight when she doesn't even know it. Can someone please give advice to me???

did it ever occur to all you parents to be suportive of your children and not make them feel like freaks. help them make healthier choices .. make them feel like they are special and make them feel loved. thats the best thing you can do. Ive read through some of these posts and you people nake me sick. and yes i am morbidly obese and im 27. ive been your kid. I know how it feels and its left me emotionaly scarred more than anyone can realize. to have our parents tell you your fat and lazy etc. is very emotionally scarring to the point of eating disorders and suicide. trust me i know .

My son is six years old. He's in first grade and weighs over 100 pounds, and he is only 4 feet tall!!!!!!!!! My wife says that he will "grow into" his weight. But it just isnt happening. His doctor is very concerned about the risks of being that large. My wife and myself are both obese and I know we don't always eat right and exercise and stuff. My son can barley walk though. He cries if you say anything about his size. And if you wont let him eat what he wants, when he wants, he throws a fit and stomps around. My wife feeds him ALL THE TIME! I dont know what to do anymore. Someone PLEASE HELP!

This is not really for my daughter, but for my neighbors daughter. They are a very nice filipino family that we get along well with but their 12 year old daughter is very fat and they dont seem to be doing anything about it. She is 4'11 and about 230lbs! The poor girl is so sweet but she is like an over stuffed pig that is becoming so fat year after year. The family doens't seem to notice and feeds her nonstop all the time. This poor girl just inhales all the food and it pains me to see a great little girl in this state. Her face is swollen, she has a huge belly, butt, and thighs, and she has so many rolls of fat! Please, can some1 give me advice on how to bring this up to my neighbors so they can try to get her to lose some weight. I cant just stand by and let this girl eat herself to that size. When ever i visit her i hug and talk to her and i notice how fat she is becoming and i feel so bad. Please some1 respond!

I was not an overweight child or young adult. Something happened in my 30's and my weight escalated. I tried every diet under the sun and couldn't seem to get the weight off. Eventually I underwent gastric bypass surgery and have successfully kept the weight off for almost 3 years. My daughter weighs approximately 226 down from 232. She has finally taken an interest in losing weight. I blame myself for her being overweight because during her formative years I was so overweight I never had the energy to exercise with her and encourage playing outside. Because of me she developed bad habits of snacking and watching entirely too much television and sitting in front of the computer. Now I have changed my habits and can't seem to find the right way to get her to change hers. As stated she has finally decided to try and cut her caloric intake but she's borderline just giving up and... (view more)
