A friend suggested I try this method of getting some advice. I could write page upon page upon page but to make it short and readable......My daughter was always very healthy and within the 70th percentile until she was 15 months old. Then at 15 months old all of a sudden she was off of the charts. By her 18 month old visit she had gained 11 more pounds. We have continued on the weight gain trend since that time and now, at age 7 she weighs 130 pounds which is even hard for me to write. We have seen doctor after doctor after doctor since we have moved alot with my husbands job. They take one look at her and do diabetes and thyroid testing, then when the blood results come back normal, they talk about nutrition. I can honestly say that nutrition is not the problem. We even have been evaluated by 2 different nutritionists a couple of y ears apart who have agreed that it is not... (view more)A friend suggested I try this method of getting some advice. We even have been evaluated by 2 different nutritionists a couple of y ears apart who have agreed that it is not nutrition. We have a 9 year old daughter who is very thin and very healthy. She eats the exact same things as our heavy daughter. I do realize metabolism is different from person to person but this is SO extreme! We had found a doctor at one point about 1 1/2 years ago who used the body temperature to measure the thyroid and when the basal temperature is low (below 96) he puts them on thyroid medicine. (Armour Thyroid). We did this for over a year and it was so wonderful. It worked very well at keeping the weight in check. It also brought her body temperature up to a normal of 98.6 instead of her body temperature being anywhere from 93.4 to 94.6 most of the time. An endocrinologist who saw her about a year later threw a fit and insisted we take her off of the thyroid meds when her blood work was normal.....long story but the short of it is that within 6 weeks of being off of the thyroid meds, she put on 22 pounds. My big question is: If she was NOT supposed to be on thyroid meds then why did she not show signs of too MUCH thyroid? She didn't show signs of too much so obviously, she needed that extra! Anyway, I wondered if anyone else had any input on this. I recently found a web site describing Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome which sounds just exactly like my daughter to a T! But, I also sense, from reading some of the web sites, that doctors are not too big on this. If ayone can help me, please, please write back. Thanks!! (view less)

My 11 year old daughter is overweight. She is about 5ft tall and weighs about 135 Lbs. I am very concerned about her. She gets so madd when I try to talk to her about it. Her best friend is a twig and when we go shopping for clothes and her friend comes she starts to cry about it because her friend can buy clothes and they wont have my daughters size. I tried to tell her that if she would stop eating so much junk food then she woldnt have this problem. I think she eats when she is bored or upset. She gets it from me. I dont know what to do without hurting her feelings. Can somone help me PLEASE.

My daugther becca and her boyfriend recently broke up. as you can imagine that has been hell in our household...which anyone who has a 15 year old daughter will stand by that with me. she broke her leg in may and at that time i noticed her putting on weight but i thought she would loose it after she got her cast off. now that becca's leg is ok she is still having the same bad habits. she's works during the summer and when she get's home she's tired and she just eats, watches tv, and goes on aim. a couple of nights ago me,becca, and my other daughter went out to eat then we went for ice-cream. becca had put on a pair of jeans that looked extra tight even though i just bought them a week ago. while becca was eating her icecream the button on her jeans opened and we couldnt close them. when we went home i saw her weight was 158.5 wit a 33% body fat. i was on a site and it said ways you can ... my son recently got a job with my mother in law at a kithen of a retreat center. He got the job a few months ago and since then he has gained 25 pounds. his stomach is most definetely larger now, he has gone up two waist sizes, and when we went to the beach last week i noticed fat rolls on him, he has never been like this before. i believe the cause for this is that he is constantly around food all the time at the kithen and since his grandmother works their, she allow him to eat some of the leftovers. at first i wanted him to quit, but then i realized the job was important to him. what should i do before he gains even more weight? by the way, he's 5'6 and weighs 173, he used to weigh 155 or so.

my daughter is at weight loss camp and this is her 3rd week.i was reluctant to send her but she was very keen i thought it was very expensive £2000 for 5 weeks and unlike other countrys in england no kids go away to camp so it wasnt the norm, well i can honestly say its the best £2000 i have ever spent she phoned today and she is having a fab time and her words to me were i love you mum but im not missing home theres to much to do and its just like home, she has already lost weight and is enjoying all the food and excersize. it seems a shame to me that more overweight children cannot be funded for these camps as a lot of people could not afford this kind of money as it will definatly be my daughters last time i could no way afford it next year .
