Hi Everyone! I am new here but so glad I found this site. My son is 9 and 4'9" and weighs 110, actually he weighs 107 now. I just thought I would let you know what we have been doing and hope it helps. Last week when my son finished school I decided it was time to start getting healthy and I discussed this with my son. He seemed happy to make the change so that made it easy. I never really call it a diet, just being healthy. We totally changed the way we eat. We measure out our servings, we choose light and lowfat foods. We also got some weight watchers smartones desserts so that he wouldnt have to give up having treats. He does not dink sugary beverages. He only has 1/2 cup of O.J. with his breakfast. The rest of the day he drinks water and has 3 cups of skim milk a day. The rest of the day he drinks water and has 3 cups of skim milk a day. He enough food so that he dosnt feel like he is starving or that he is on a diet and so far it has been working. In one week he lost 3 pounds and is still happy to be following a new healthy lifestyle. This weekend we start an excersise program. I think that helping your child to be healthy and lose weight it really has to be something that the family does together and to measure your portions and servings! Hey even I lost a couple pounds! I know how hard it is for children to lose weight and tell them that they cant have certain things when other kids are allowed but we have to be strong. We are only doing what is best for our children. I wish all of you luck and success and if anyone wants me to post some samples of our mealplans I would be happy to do so. Lets keep on supporting each other for our childrens health and happiness!Heather (view less)

My son is 13 and weighs 230lbs. I dont know what to do anymore. Hes much bigger then me and has a larger clothing size(size 34 jeans). I dont know where to buy him clothes anymore. His sister works for McDonalds and brings him home two burgers, two fries and a soda and he eats it all. I cant stop it because im not home at the time. Instead of going outside he sits on the couch getting bigger and bigger. For lunch at school he dosent eats what i give him and buys pizzas and candy from the machines. Whenever hes out in public he tries to suck i his huge belly. At school he has friends but says that hes the fattest in his grade. I am actually not overweight and he wasnt like this before. Sometimes i dont think that he cares that hes fat. I dont know what to do anymore, PLEASE HELP!

I can't believe I am even considering this but I guess it is on my mind and this seems to be a very safe place to get advice from other parents who truly understand my dilemma. My daughter is 11, weighs 137 and is 4 ft 9 in. She is extremely athletic & plays a variety of sports along with cheer classes and twice weekly private tumbling. She has always been alittle bigger than other girls her age and, of course, I have always been concerned with health issues but most importantly I've been more concerned with her self esteem and overall happiness. My beautiful 8 year old daughter is over weight. She is extremely active: softball and cheerleading daily. I never fully realized how "big" she was until last weekend at her first cheerleading meet when the other teams stood aroung to see the fat girl cheer. Thank goodness she did'nt hear them, but I did and it made me absolutely sick to my stomach. Cali is 8 yrs old and weighs 115 pounds and is constantly eating--she is never full. We have gone as far as to take all "snacks" and drinks out of the house but it has not helped. We have seen doctor after doctor but all they recommend is to diet with no other help. All of your help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hello everyone. I has been three months since we went to the dietician. Amanda weighed 185 pounds and stood 5'3". She is very athletic playing three sports, walking, riding bikes, jumping on trampolines. Rarely does she sit inside. Yet she continuedto gained weigh. We learned how o eat healthier and in portions. Today we learned Amanda has lost 10 pounds! I have lost 8. If we are not losing we are setting even and not gaining. It is a simple plan; portion control is the biggest part.I detailed this plan in my last update (just scroll down until you find me again). This is working for us and has been a God send for Amanda. She is regaing her confidence and walking around with her head held high. I hope you will take the time to read my last update and maybe put this to use. Many blessings to you and your brave children for fighting this battle and not giving up.

Thanks Shana for the reply to my question about stretch marks. I figured that the ones one her breasts her due to how fast she is growing, not her weight. Im going to see if I can find a good scar reduction cream for her to try. I also had a relpy from someone who said they use cocoa butter......ever hear of this? Thanks again. Much appreciated.Tami :):)
