Hi i have a beautiful daughter who is 10 years old. She is 4 foot 7 and weighs 115#s. She gets teased sometimes at school and seems to be getting self concious about how she looks. She really does not like sports at school. We have been walking in the evenings.
I have talked to her about this and she said she wants to loose some weight. I am trying to cut her fat and sugar intake. I have decided not to have her eat hot lunches (I worked in a school cafeteria) instead i pack her lunch. Any one have any great healthy sandwich ideas? Nicole is so beautiful i don't want her weight to become a big part of her life. I want to teach her to make healthy food choices. I have been doing alot of research about healthy eating. Any advice would be appreciated. God Bless Vanessa

I split from my wife about 1 year ago, and I left 4 happy daughters, each healthy enough. Katie(15y/o) and was 130, Laura (13y/o) was 150, Alicia (10y/o) was 100, and Sharon (9y/o) was 80. Now, after about 1 year in her care (I see them once every 2 weeks) their weight has increased dramatically. Katie (16, 5'8") is now 240, Laura (14,5'5") she posts here by the way) is somewhere in the region of 270, they both agree that they want to lose weight, but they don't know where to start. Alicia (11,4'11) is 198! but the worst of all is Sharon, who is 10 and very short (3'7), and weighs 230lbs. I don't know what to do, Sharon is always stuffing her face full of hamburgers, chips, and fried foods, she's the one who worries me most, because Katie and Laura are trying to lose weight, (and Katie has succeded, she's gone down from 290 to 240, she's doing well) and Alicia has decided to cut down a little, but Sharon just scoffs her day away in front of the TV, and she is spoilt rotten by my former wife, she has everything she wants, including her own private fridge!Yours worrying.Bob

I have a 16 year old son, who weighs 420lbs, and says that he likes being that way. He has trouble walking short distances, and doing everyday activities. Please help me, because I don't want him having health problems when he is older.

I have a 9 year old daughter that is overweight. She weighs 118 lbs. To me she doesnt look fat but just a little heavy. She wants to lose and get down to 80 lbs. She does sit ups and simple exercises but gets bored of them fast. I am looking for anyone who has any tips on making her exercise routine fun for her so she looks forward to doing it. If you can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks .
Terri

I need some help for my son. He is overweight, not too bad, but still overweight. He is 5'8" and he weighs 162 lbs. He doesn't like to go swimming because he's embarassed of his stomach. He can't stand to go shopping with anyone because he is embarrased of his size, which, by the way, is 33. I want to help him, but he won't talk about it with anyone. How can I get him to talk to me?

My daughter will be a freshman this Fall, and she's beginning to take an interest in clothes. Although she is overweight, she is very confident, self-assured, good natured, and she has many good friends. She'll very infrequently make remarks about her "skinny" friends which leads me to believe that her weight does bother her. She's never admitted it to me. There is one area in her life that absolutely bothers her: there are no "cute clothes" in her size. She's now wearing a 16 petite (or short). There really is nothing for her in teen shops. It is so sad to go shopping with her, we end up in the Misses Plus sizes sometimes. I assume my daughter is not the only experiencing this, how do you handle this? I'm tempted to hire a seamstress for next year's formal dance at school. Any suggestions?

I just found this site while looking for height/weight charts for kids. I found one at slimkids.com, and it said my 46.5 inch tall daughter, who weighs 60 lbs is underweight. I can tell by the rolls on her belly that isnt true. This site says she is overweight-over 95% for her age and sex, but should she be compared to her age group when she is as tall as a 6 year old? Let me know if I have this right! Also, any advice would be appreciated.. I intend to nip this in the bud before the problem gets out of hand.. I, too, was a heavy child and still struggle as an adult. I am glad I found you!

Me again, does anybody have any input on childrens weightloss programs like committed for kids or slimkids, Do these programs work??? We live in a very hick town near Branson, MO and the fitness clubs won't allow children in the fitness areas due to insurance reasons.

I have a 13 year old daughter. She is overweight at 165lbs. She started having a weights problem from around the age of 8. She's taken a lot of teasing about this and usually just laughs it off. Lately though it's not been so easy. She is desperate to lose weight now and I am doing everything I can to help her. What makes matters worse, is that I have no idea where to start. I have never had to diet, so it's hard for me to know what to do. Luckily this web sight has been a big help for both my daughter and myself. For the last two weeks we've worked together, planning what food to buy and eat. We've done well and have cut out all the chips, soda and candy. Also checking labels for fat content etc. Every evening we go out and execise for an hour. My daughter weighed herself after a week and found that she hadn't taken off any weight at all. Very dissappointing for her. All I could say was it will take time. It's very hard for my daughter to accept this as being a teenager, she wants results now! Does anyone know what weight loss she should expect after a few weeks?

Hi everyone. I was wondering if you could help me, my daughter is 13 years old and is constantly made fun of about her weight. She isn't really that heavy for someone 5foot 6inches 118lbs isn't a lot considering how muscular she is playing all the sports that she does. She would like to lose about 10lbs of fat just to get into better shape for her sports. I don't want her to do it alone because i don't want her to do anything unhealthy. But I'm not too sure what to do myself, can anyone help?
