Hello to everyone my name is Janette and I have three children .I am concerned with children's weight problems and what they are going through because I too was an overweight child and adult. I have been doing a lot of reading, I am now reaching the posiablity of opening a childrens health center to help parent, and children like you all learn about safe and healthy ways of controlling weight thru diet and exercise. What I want to know is if there is a need for such a place and if you would take advantage of such a program

My son is 4 and 1/2 years old, he's 3'11" and weighs about 76 pounds. He's been a little husky since he was 2, but now he's getting fat. It hurts so much when he comes home from prescool/day care and tells me that the kids make fun of him because of his weight. He lives with his dad, and each time I see him he gets bigger. He goes through clothes like people go through tissues...he's wearing a 12-14 in boys clothes. At this rate, he'll be wearing men's clothes in no time. He loves food and his father is forever giving him fried chicken and pizza and he doesn't make our son drink water. It's always juice, punch or whole milk, even though I've told him to give him water or at least skim milk and cut out the junk-food. But his father lets him eat whatever he wants. If my son sees someone eating something, he wants it...even if he just finished a meal. I'm worried that the extra weight is going to cause health problems in the future. Please help!!

My daughter is now fourteen. She is the youngest yet tallest girl in her freshmen class. Being 6'0 tall already makes her feel more insecure because she's at least 5 inches taller than most of the other girls, and she has a larger stomach. She is 6'0 tall and weighs about 180-185lbs. She could be a lot worse, but I know if she lost at least 10 or 15lbs, she would be a lot happier. Does anyone have any good tips for me to share with my daughter?

I am nearly at my wit's end!!! I cant find the answer to my question anywhere!!! Can anyone out there tell me where i can find a GOOD website with a weight chart ??? IM FRANTIC about my nearly 12 year old son!!! First of all, HE HAS A MUSTACHE!! He is the only one in his grade that does. Second, he seems much bigger and more broader than his classmates. He has huge shoulders and chest... I worry so much about his weight...He's 5 feet 2 and weighs 119 pounds. Is his weight appropriate for his height? How do i find the answer to this question???

Kathy is 125lbs. and she is around 5'4" tall. I am concerned that she is overeating and not getting enough excercise. How can I motivate her and yet keep her from feeling that I am saying she is fat. We have already had a problem with this. I love her and want what is best for her and I do not want her to have joint problems later!!
tHANKS!!!

hi my daughter is 6 but soon will be 7. she weighs 90lbs now. we've been back and forth to the doctors since she was 5. she has always been a little big. but she started gaining most of the weight at age 3 and a half and 4 yrs old. my biggest problem is trying to teach her portion sizes or why she can't have seconds. i think she eats out of boredum most of the time. everytime i tell her no its a power struggle. i keep all junk food out of the house now and am encouraging her to eat fruit, vegetables, and lofat cereal w/skim milk. its not easy but i hope it helps. i am a little overweight myself so i told her together we are going to eat healthier and hopfully lose some weight. if anyone is interested i'd love to e-mail (allisonj324@netzero.com

hey, i'm the same one with the post on the eminem one. I just wanna tell the parents on here that if you censor your kids to much, something will most likely go wrong. I have so many different friends from many different backrounds. Most of them are very rich, and also very restricted. But one thing that happens is that they'll go to friends house s and hear it there. They'll listen to the radio, watch TV, anyhting, it's hard to escape. I'm already not the most normal child in the world, but not because of his songs. If i wasn't aloud to listen to him, i would be so mad at my parents, i would hate them. But my mom would rather have me listen to him then Britney and Christina and think it's cool to whore myself out in barely there clothes. Hell, by your girl a No DOubt album, gwen is much more respectable. Let your kids have some freedom, it'll be better. My mom lets me express myself, i ... (view more)

My daughter is 14 and about 5 foot 6. She never let's me see how much she weighs, but I've never been too concerned. She doesn't look that big, but she does have a stomach that sort of hangs. But yesterday we were in my room and I've been redecorating so stuff is everywhere and the scale was by my bed and I was sitting on my bed and she came over and stood on it to be next to me and ask me something. Curious, I didn't say anything and then I saw what she weighs. She then left and I know now that she weighs in around 180. Our scale is a bit goofy so i figure maybe 5 to 10 pounds less, but still, isn't that a bit much for a 14 year old? I mean most of the kids weigh like 120, or 130. And here she is at 180. I don't know what to do about it. Should I talk to her or take her to a doctor?

Hi! I am very worried about my childs weight. She is 12 and weighs 190. Her friends don't make fun of her at all. I know because they are all very kind and she is good friends with them. She does not look 190 because she is very stronge andbig boned but she hates it. I want to help my baby girl so bad but I don't know what to do. I have never worried about my own weight and don't know what to do about hers. she has tryed on her own to lose the weight lots of times but can't stay on the work-out plan and can't eat good all the time. Please I am asking you for your help. Could you give me some work-outs and eating tips for her? She will really be thankfull for your help. Please reply back. thank you so much for your help.

This is about as much for me as it is my kids. All the men in my family are overweight. Me, my dad, my brothers, and my 3 sons. Therefore, we tend to eat a lot on Thanksgiving. In fact, we pretty much eat all day and end up gaining weight. My dad is 5'11" 250 lbs, my youngest brother is 26, 5'9" and 220 lbs, my other brother is 34, 5'9" and 235 lbs, and I am 39, 5'10" and 215 lbs. I have always hoped that my kids wouldn't turn out like us, but the totch passed. One of my sons is 17, 5'9" and 210 lbs, my 15 son is 5'9" and 195 lbs, and my 14 son is 5'7" and 175 lbs. If anyone can help us out and give me tips about how to not eat until we can't move, it would be very much appreciated.
