My son is very self-conscious about his weight. he is 48" and 109 lbs. He refuses to go to any swimming activities unless he can keep his shirt on. And he says he's "fat." I feel so bad about how he feels. He loves all food and I try to help him make healthy choices and to eat slower but he does end up sneaking food. Plus he is very inactive. He is not interested in sports, he's a bookworm and computer fan. He has made a New Year's resolution to lose 10 lbs. and actually began an exercise program that I do called Power 90. He is very excited but I can't help but worry about his self-esteem. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts and would like to get in touch with others for support. Thanks.

My son, Jason is 17 years old. He's 6'1" and weighs around 280 lbs. He has never really been small, but he started gaining alot of weight when he was 16. He used to way around 175 lbs. That's over 100 lbs. he has gained in only 1 year. He said the reason why he gained alot of weight was for football. I took him to a dietrician, but the Doctor wasn't very helpful, he simply said just put him on a diet. I have tried to keep him away from fattening foods and motivated him to exercise, but I am a single mom and I have to work. Jason is quite a big eater. He can pack down alot of food when he wants too. It definitely shows in his gut. His stomach is huge. He just doesn't seem to care that he is so heavy. I have told him many times that it is very unhealthly but he is a fighter and doesn't want to take any advice from mom. My other son Justin is 20. He is 5'11" and only weighs 110 lbs. He is... I have a 14 year old who loves football. Last year when he was 13, he played for a local little league team. He was very skinny 13 5'9 139lbs. When the seson ended, he and his coach were going to move up to the same high school team. He tried out and didnt make it and his coach said that all the spots were filled for the next year or two, except for center, and if he wanted to be center, he had to ain a lot of weight. He agreed and started eating Junk food non stop. Whenever I tried to stop him, he would say " I eat because I love football, if you stop me, you wont love me." he made me feel guilty. Then after a year he was 14 5'10 and 311 lbs. Tryouts were 4 months ago and he didnt make it because the same coach said that he was too heavy. Because of that,4 months later he is now 14 5'10 331 lbs. There is a huge Gut were his six pack used to be, and his big arm muscles are now all flab and no muscle. I look at a pictue of him last year nice and skinny, and now Fat or Obese from head to GUT to toe. And he still loves Football. What should I do?

Does anyone know of any boarding schools that specialize in healthy living and weight loss? My daughter weights 245 pounds and I'm considering sending her to one. I'd like your opinion on whether you think this is a good idea. Thanks.

Hi everybody, I need some help for my overweight daughter. She is 13, 5'2 and 134lbs. About a year ago, we moved and she was fairly active and ate healthy enough where we used to live. Now that we have moved, it seems all she does is sit around and go on the computer or watch TV. I try to get her out of the house(ie taking dog for walk, going swimming, sports, etc), but she always comes up with some excuse or another. I know she is uncomfertable about her weight because she is always wearing baggy clothing and sweatshirts even when it is warm outside. Although she is not seriously overweight, I just want her to loose a couple of pounds so both she and I will be happy. Any suggestions would be extremley helpful! Thanks,Suze

A good friend of mine has a 5 year old son. He is rather overweight for his age and height. He's about 3'10" or 3'11" and weighs 85 lbs. I went shopping with her for school uniforms for her son- he's 5 and wearing a size 14 boys pants and size 12 boys shirt. That is huge for a 5 year old...she told me she had to hem 6 inches off the pants so they'd be the right length for him. She is constantly feeding her child fast food, because that's what he always asks for. She and her son came to my house for dinner one night, and she actually brought him Mcdonald's because "he doesn't like to eat home cooked food" Since when do children run the household and tell their parents what they will and will not eat? I was raised to eat whatever was put in front of me and that was that. The incredible thing is, this 5 yr old eats as much as an adult. She bought him 2 burgers, large fries, a 9 piece... (view more)

My daughter weighed about 160 pounds in June at her last check-up. She is about 5'2 and wears a size 14 in juniors. About last week I took her to thi gym thing where you can take your daughter, since she's reallynot active and doesn't play sports I thought this would be a great idea. She got tired quickly, but she decided to keep going on the treadmill for about 25 minutes. After she finished she was so proud of herself. Later on while we were changing in the locker room there was a scale. "I must've lost 10 pounds today" she joked. I was so proud of her, I said "Why don't we see how much you lost" she stepped on the scale and it was one of those doctor scales where you slide that little thing. I started at 150 lbs... 160... 170... What she weighed more than 170?!? She ended up weighing 179 lbs (really 180 put she didn't want to admit it). She had gained 20 pounds over the summer! As if... i felt the need to update you all on my doctors appointment we were told there was nothing she could do for my daughter until she was an obese adult and then suggested she cut back on her food again i explained we had already done this and i was reluctant to cut back any more until we had seen a dietician who could insure i was not putting her health at risk by underfeeding her which i feel i would do if i cut back anymore.she then informed me there was no childrens dietician in our area so basically said sorry i cant help you bring her back when shes an adult who is very obese

Why do all the teens or preteens that post on the parents asking them a question get taken off. Like the last teen one that was asking parents for ways to tell there parents that they wanted to diet was a good one and I think parents should of replied to it to help her. Well thanx for listening and please dont take it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great tip for finding jeans to fit pre-teens. We buy my daughter jeans in capri style. She is 9 and quite short so I will buy her Capris in a 16.5 size these are the right length and fit great and are usually quite cute.
