This is not really for my daughter, but for my neighbors daughter. They are a very nice filipino family that we get along well with but their 12 year old daughter is very fat and they dont seem to be doing anything about it. She is 4'11 and about 230lbs! The poor girl is so sweet but she is like an over stuffed pig that is becoming so fat year after year. The family doens't seem to notice and feeds her nonstop all the time. This poor girl just inhales all the food and it pains me to see a great little girl in this state. Her face is swollen, she has a huge belly, butt, and thighs, and she has so many rolls of fat! Please, can some1 give me advice on how to bring this up to my neighbors so they can try to get her to lose some weight. I cant just stand by and let this girl eat herself to that size. When ever i visit her i hug and talk to her and i notice how fat she is becoming and i feel so bad. Please some1 respond!

I was not an overweight child or young adult. Something happened in my 30's and my weight escalated. I tried every diet under the sun and couldn't seem to get the weight off. Eventually I underwent gastric bypass surgery and have successfully kept the weight off for almost 3 years. My daughter weighs approximately 226 down from 232. She has finally taken an interest in losing weight. I blame myself for her being overweight because during her formative years I was so overweight I never had the energy to exercise with her and encourage playing outside. Because of me she developed bad habits of snacking and watching entirely too much television and sitting in front of the computer. Now I have changed my habits and can't seem to find the right way to get her to change hers. As stated she has finally decided to try and cut her caloric intake but she's borderline just giving up and... (view more)

I think my child has an eating disorder. i have not confroted her about this because i do not want her to be upset with me. She is not super thin but i don't think she is overweight either. I not sure if it is very serious but she ALWAYS talks about her weight. She wants to diet all the time but i see her eating. i know she has thrown up before but i don't know if she does this regularly. She is 5 feet tall, 12 years old, and weighs 109 pounds. she is a dancer as well. she takes Ballet, Jazz, and Modern. I think she could be on the very brink of an eating disorder.
I dont know what to do.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 19-year-old daughter came home from college 3000 miles away and I didn't recognize her at the airport initially---she has gone from a thin, athletic body type to a fat person--I mean she has gained about 50 pounds. We hadn't seen her since September 2004 because she spent Xmas with her boyfriend's family in Spain.
I am beside myself, and don't know what to say. I am still getting used to the shocking change. Her face, her rear end, her stomach---all blown up and flabby now.
What happened to my beautiful daughter???

I only would have one worry about parents getting childern to lose weight, their self esteem. If you tell them to lose weight they could feel like their not good enough, disgusting, worthless, a pig. So remember when asking or telling them to lose weight remember to be nice and remind them that it's not because their ugly or anything it's just for their health and nothing other than that.

After reading all your stories, my concern seems so trivial. But I would still like some advice if at all possible. My son, Jack, is wonderfully gifted. He is at boarding school but I and his father see him frequently (about 1-3 times a month). My husband, myself, and my other seven children are extremely athletic. However, Jack our third of eight total children is not so. He finds it a waste of time. He gets straight A's in extremely difficult AP and honors classes and for that I am beyond proud of him. However, he is 5 foot 9 and weighs 200-215 pounds (being he is away I am not exactly sure but he is in that range). He has a large gut but a relatively flat chest. He wears a size 36 (tight) dockers or size 38 (loose) dockers so I am guesing his waist about 37 inches. He is extremly confident about his appearence and has no plans to lose weight. I have truly no idea what to do. Being he ... (view more)

Hello, my 16 year-old daughter, Jaime, has recently had me worried over her weight. She is incredibly beautiful, yet I'm worried for her health she is 5'11'' tall and weighs 210 pounds, which worries me. She doesn't look like she weighs that though. She doesn't have a 'gut' or stretchmarks yet. She has great muscle tone and is on the track, basketball, and volleyball team, yet her 33 inch waist is tormenting her and her doctors. I'm not sure how I can address this issue with her. Help would be wonderful.
