Ht. 5'4", Start: 190 lb, Today: 170.4 lb (BMI %tile: 94), Goal: 135 lb - I think rewarding ourselves is good. Not with food...I mean yeah when I'm doing really good I allow myself a cookie but I'm talking about rewarding ourselves with something other than food. My mom told me today that she was happy for me that I reached my 20 lb. goal and she took me to get a pedicure. It was great and it made me not only happy that my toes looked awesome but also about how hard I worked to lose those 20 pounds. It was remotivating for me to keep doing better! I think we should reward ourselves with something like that or a new pair of shoes, or a new shirt or jeans. It doesn't have to be clothes. Heaven knows I get excited to try out new hair or makeup products. Or we could reward ourselves with food...I don't like this idea as much because when I do this I tend to get carried away. Maybe reward ourselves with food we've never tried...something crazy like sushi or... (view more)

I've seen this on TV for motivation.
Take a picture of yourself when you looked your absolute best, and a picture of when you looked your worst (biggest)
Put them side-by-side on the refrigerator and decide before you snack which image you want more.
You've come such a long way! Don't get too discouraged, we all slip up. When you're tempted to have a snack at night, have a taaaaaaaaaaaaall glass of water. That can fill you up :)

If you grils need helpe with advice about excriseing, ok I been searching on websites excrisieng bikes, are the best, I would look on freecycle, because that way you wont be paying a lot of money for them.. They are great I used to use it at my grandpartens house, a lot to stay fit, It is really good for kids who are trying to lose, or use a regular bike, either one will burn a lot of calories...

I look at catalogs, clothing, pictures.. I print them out sometimes... I sometimes buy a small size of clothing, as my pounds come off, I look at sizes, well I look at my nightclothes in my drawer, to keep me motivated.. I go for running to keep me movited... I draw my favorite outfits on paper.. That works for me...
To keep me motivated..

Welcome back Manda =). Congrats on your current weight loss! So I saw that you mentioned motivation was your biggest problem. I think most of us can relate. It's discouraging work sometimes, trying to lose weight. I've found that if you keep a visual near of what motivates you (ie: photo of you at 155, a new outfit, a list of benefits that come with being a healthy weight, etc.), it makes it that much easier to stay on course. One site I used was www.mvm.com. I created a virtual model based off of my highest, current and goal weight, printed all 3 off and stuck them on a separate piece of paper, side by side, so I could see where I came from and where I was going.
Also, you could try out www.caloriecount.about.com. It has really great tools for keeping track of calories you consume and burn in a day, plus, it has awesome forums where you can ask/answer almost any weight-related... (view more)

hey Sophie!
It's okay...sometimes we get stuck in a weight loss rut sometimes...it just happens. In my oipnion, the easiest way to get out of it and start feeling motivated again is to pick a target outfit and start making SMALL changes to reach the goal of fitting into it. (& as a reward, once you fit into it, have your fiance take you for a night out to wear it! :) Don't say, "I'm going to start my diet tomorrow". Start RIGHT NOW. Start by, say...cutting out juice & pop & drinking ONLY water. That change alone can make a huge difference...then everyday make another small change (ie: walking places instead of driving whenever possible). Your motivation will slowly return & next thing you know, you'll be ready to get right back into the swing of things! Good luck! :)

Look at a catagol or look on online for soemthing that will give you motivation. A pair of jeans that you have in your room. And look at the numbers.

There's nothing like motivation to get you to lose excess weight and it sounds like a fresh start at college is a great one to have =). First, congrats for coming to this site and seeking support, advice, etc.
We've all been/are in the same position you're now in so we get it, possibly more than the people who are around you every day.
The main thing to keep in mind is DON'T GIVE UP. Losing weight is a big undertaking and you have to realize that you didn't gain overnight so don't expect to lose overnight. It's all about the choices you make - each day you're making choices that will determine whether you lose the weight or not. Choosing water over soda, getting up 1/2 hour earlier to go for a walk, not taking that second helping ...all of these things contribute to you meeting your goal.
Believe me, there are going to be times when you want to give up or days where... (view more)

Ht. 5'4", Start: 248.5 lb, Today: 229 lb (BMI: 39), Goal: 170 lb - WHOOO-HOOO! I am down 19 1/2 pounds and I feel great! Yesterday I was able to put on a pair of jeans that I haven't fit into in about 8 months. Although I am losing weight, and choosing healthier choices, I feel like my habit of eating just because it tastes good is finding its way back into my life. So I need to really concentrate on waiting until I am hungry to eat and only eat until I am full, not full to the point of sickness. I strongly feel that watching Biggest Loser and I Used To Be Fat is a real motivation for me, well, that and the fact I feel better, look better and love better. I think I am starting to love myself more and with that I can love my boyfriend not more but better because I am not so self-conscience. My Mom told me the other day that my Dad was really proud of me and he drags about the fact I get up and exercise every morning. I am... (view more)

:^)Hi Imani. I began excercising consistantly, eating healthier , and cutting back on my portions. What kept me motivated was seeing myself begin to look and feel healtheir. The weight loss I was recieving on the scale, was also a big determination to continue the pattern. = )
