 The best fat burning exercise is any activity that gets your heart pumping faster. This type of exercise is called cardiovascular exercise, or cardio for short.  Am I losing weight in a healthy way?

=> Hello. I'm 14 and I weigh about 190 lbs. I've lost 10 pounds in the last few months (since schools been out). 1. Is that healthy? Is it a healthy loss rate? 2. I would like to be healthy. Any simple suggestions? I'm never teased so socially, I don't care what I look like. I just care about my health. 3. I'm considering becoming a vegitarian. Any healthy non-meat foods that are good and easy to make?

 Sounds to me that you are taking a healthy and sensible approach to your health. You want to be healthier and you are taking your time. I think that is great! Ten pounds over a few months is a great rate.

To keep up with the weight loss, make sure you eat 3 meals a day and a snack between if you are hungry. Pick from fruits, veggies, whole grains, low fat dairy, and lean proteins. Eat only when you feel physical hunger and stop when you are no longer hungry yet not really full. Be active everyday. Try to get 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity most days.

Here are some non-meat foods that are easy to make: chick peas (or garbonzo beans), edamame, avocado, roasted peanuts, sunflower seeds, artichokes, black beans, any veggie or fruit, black bean burgers, and veggie burgers. Check out this tip on Going Vegetarian. Good luck!


 Exercising with Ashtma

=> hey, so i am very overweight for my age! i am over 250 pounds and i am 13 and i need help! is there any exercises that i can do because i have ashtma and when i do a lot of things, i start to breath hard and i just need exercise plans that will help me loose 10 pounds before school starts!

 I am glad to hear you know getting healthier will help your asthma. There are things you can do that will help you lose weight. Since you have asthma, it is important to speak with your doctor or health care provider what you can and cannot do with asthma. You will have to start with shorter exericise and build up. For example, start by walking 5 or 10 minutes and then slowly add more minutes as you get stronger.

 I need more confidence

=> Hi..I'm 17 years old and I'm not very confident at all because I'm barely 5 ft. tall and weigh 153 lbs..people say I'm pretty and that I look good...but I don't feel good..I do exercise, that way I won't have belly rolls when I stand up..but basically I just want some help in gaining confidence and getting myself motivated, to lose weight the right way..I will appreciate anything at all..Thank You.

 There are 3 parts needed to be successful at weight loss. The first is healthy eating and the second is physical activity. The last part is how you think about it all. Gaining confidence is such an important part of losing weight. You need to believe you can and will. I am so glad you realize you need help with it to be healthier.

Gaining confidence cannot happen overnight. It takes time to re-wire your brain to think positively. One thing to do to start is this: start your own "Good Things" journal. This journal is different than a food journal or diary. In this journal you record 3 things everyday that you are proud that you did. You can include things like getting an A on a spelling test, answering a question in class, or cheering up a sad classmate. Everyday, recording these things can help re-wire your brain to think positively!

 How much to lose?

=> I 'm 12 almost 13 and i'm 158 lbs. How much should I set my goal for to lose??

 Hello! I encourage you to have two goals. First have a long term goal. Check out the weight calculator on this site to find out a healthy weight range for you.

Next, set a short term goal. Many kids and teens say they shoot for 5 pounds. Losing 5 pounds takes some people 2 weeks where as others it takes a month. Some kids and teens who are still growing in height may need even longer to lose 5 pounds.

The important thing is to be patient. Those that are successful at weight loss know it takes time. Good luck!

 I can't last 2 days dieting!

=> OMG!! I need soooo much help with losing weight. Every time i get motiveted to diet. Two to three days will pass then that's when i just give up. I've never lasted more than a week with 2 be honest! I'll be doing so good, then BAM! So then i say i start again tommorow then tommorow comes, i don't do it. And same with the other days.

=> Hey Wiz! I am 16 years old and 5 ft. 3 in. and I weigh 192 lbs. I have always been overweight and I have gone on diets with my mom and gone to the gym with my mom but something always happens(usually holidays)to cause us to take a break. But the break always turns into something permanent. We havent ever stuck with anything despite the fact that we have been really successful at some of the stuff we have done.Anyways.My question is how can I stay motivated and determined when Im trying to lose weight on my own?

 Weight loss does not take huge changes. It takes lots of small changes over a long period of time. I wonder if you start smaller, it that would help your motivation. You are NOT alone. Try these hints to get you moving and sticking with it:
1) Take out a piece of paper. First, make a list of all the reasons why you want to lose weight. They can be big reasons or small ones. They maybe serious or silly. Write down as many as you can think of. Turn the paper over. Next, write down all the reasons why losing weight is hard. It maybe too hard to give up some of your favorite foods. It maybe too hard to stop watching TV and exercise. Write down as many reasons as you can.
2) Pick one food goal and one exercise goal each week. Keep track in a notebook how you are doing. Sometimes writing this down helps people stay on track and stay motivated.
3) Write down what you eat everyday. Also, write down all the exercise you do.
4) Get a weight loss buddy. Help each other stay motivated!
5) Reward yourself each week or month after you have been working hard on your goals. Do NOT reward yourself with food. Reward yourself with new exercise clothes or dvd, or go to a movie.


 Safe weight loss

=> Dear Lucy, I'm 12 years old and am entering 7th grade in the fall. I'm trying to lose weight before going back to school. Do you have any advice on how to shed some pounds safely. I just don't want people talking about my weight behind my back anymore.

 I am glad to hear you are looking for safe weight loss. Safe weight loss takes time, so I encourage you to be patient with the results. Try some of these to help you get started:

1.) Start a food and activity journal. Keep track of everything you put in your mouth. With this info, you can start making goals to help you get healthier.
2.) With your food journal, pick one or two healthy eating or activity goals each week. In your journal, keep track of your progress. Include things that are tough with weight loss.
3.) Weigh yourself one time per week. Do not weigh yourself more than that. Be patient for the results. Healthy weight loss can happen at 1 to 2 pounds per week. Some kids and teens who are still growing can lose 1 to 2 pounds per month.
4.) Get a weight loss buddy or activity buddy. It is easier to stick to a plan when you are not alone!

 Healthy snacks

 Healthy snacking is very important to lose weight. Before I tell you foods to choose, remember these few things:

1.) Choose to eat a snack only when you feel physically hungry.
2.) Be sure to not eat snacks when you are bored or feeling blue. See rule number one.
3.) Keep foods out of sight when you are not eating.
4.) Eat snacks only at the kitchen table, not in front of the TV or computer.

 I am teased for being fat!

 Looking and feeling different can make it extra hard to lose weight. Many times kids and teens believe what the bullies say to them instead of believing in themselves.
