 What about goals?

=> how do you know how to set a good goal for your self?

 Only YOU know what you are capable of doing today. My advice to you is to make sure you do not set too big of a goal. A goal that is TOO BIG is to lose 20 pounds a month (or more), eat only fruits and veggies, and run 10 miles per day. Those are all too big and VERY unhealthy. A great way to start making goals, is to record what you eat and what activities you do for a week. Start doing this BEFORE you change anything. After a few days, you may start to see what you need to change first. Maybe you drink 3 sodas a day and do not get enough cardio exercise. A great goal then would be to drink 1 or 2 sodas a week and walk 10 minutes 3 times this week. Remember to set a goal you KNOW you can do! Good luck and I believe you can do it!


 I hate my weight!

=> i hate my weight i tried every diet in the world i pray to god every night for him to make me skiny i don't no what to do i can't stay on a diet because every time i see food i eat it its so hard how do i lose weight

 Being overweight can be really frustrating sometimes. Anyone who said losing weight is easy, is wrong! People who are successful at weight loss try many MANY times to lose weight and try many different ways. Don't give up! Take it one step at a times, one day at a time. In the mean time, if you eat food you see, try to keep it out of your sight except at meals. Put the cookies and chips on the highest shelf in the pantry. Keep the lower calorie stuff on the kitchen counter. Keep a bowl of grapes in the fridge right in front. Keep bottled water right next to it. Be patient with yourself and you will get healthier!


 I have the worst cravings!

=> please help i have the worse cravings i mean i ate 5 grilled cheese sandwhiches this morning. please help me by what i should eat and excersise!

 Controlling cravings can be the hardest part of being healthier. It can also be the biggest part of getting you to a healthier weight. Consider making a plan for yourself before a craving hits. Make a list of all the activities you can do when you are bored, lonely, sad, and mad. Many people tell me they crave lots of foods after school while they watch TV. For them, their plan would be to keep their mind and hands busy during those hours. Some people do artwork, play with their dog, talk on the phone, use the computer, get physical activity...the best way to keep your mind off the cravings is doing things YOU enjoy. Using physical activity will give you a couple of added bonuses. First, the activity will help you lose weight. Second, the activity may help increase a chemical in your brain that might make it easier for you to fight the cravings.

Next time you get a craving, say hello to it. Maybe even say, "Hi craving! I know you are here to get me to eat more Doritos!" Next, take out your list of things to do. Fighting cravings takes lots of practice. It will get easier with practice. Good luck and I know you can control it!


 Help me find my motivation!

=> I realy want to loose wheight but i have no motervation.Like this morning i thought i will get up go for a run and come home and have a realy healthy day but this morning i said i'm to tired or i'll go for a walk instead but i just end up in frount of the t.v.Please help me to be more motervated?

 How do I eat healthy foods at school?

=> every thing i have tried to lose weight with fails, and the food they serve at school does not help my situation. how can i find something healthy at school to eat for lunch, without having to eat salads every day? i hate veggies and cant control myself enough to not eat unhealthy things. i really need some help.

 Sometimes a person has to try many times to lose weight and be successful. Don't give up! Every health choice you make for yourself helps make your body healthier! As for your school choices, it can be hard to choose salad when pizza and French fries are just a few steps away. Consider letting yourself have one item that you normally get, maybe the pizza. Instead of choosing fries, consider choosing other sides like a fruit or veggie. Also, choose water or fat free milk to drink. Some kids tell me that bringing their lunch makes it easier for them to choose healthier. This way, they are not even tempted by going through the line. Try packing your lunch a few times a week. Keep up the effort. Remember, there are no failures in weight loss. Every step you take to a healthier you is a success!


 I need to lose weight, but I don't know what to do.

 Sounds like you are serious about starting a weight loss plan. I encourage you to read more about healthy nutrition and exercise on this site. Also, talk with people at school or on this site who are trying to be healthier too. After learning about the different options, you can choose the best for you! Start with one or two goals for each week. Maybe drink water instead of soda and walk for 10 minutes a day. Keep track of your progress. Reward yourself for your hard work. Each week pick a new goal or two. You will get there!


 People are so mean to me!

=> im only 12 i dont know how much i way but i feel horible because i thinking about throwing up and stuff like that and well people tease me soooooooooooooo much i cant stand i used to come home crying every day and well someone wrote a nasty note on my desk one day it said: get off my bed u big fat ugy red head! and it hurt me so bad and then some one read it out in front of the class every one heard it and i was crying sooooooo hard and then my parents got divorced and i gan over 20 lbs over the summer! and most of my clothes dint fit now im soo imbaresd i moved and well all i cant think about is my weight! i just want to lose 40 pounds! i weigh like 150! :( and i cant stand me any more i wish so much looked like the girls on mtv! im embaressed to even be alive

 Your story is hard to read since it is very sad that your classmates can be so mean. It must have been tough to share it. I am happy you shared it though. Many other kids and teens on this site go through similar experiences everyday. Your story will help them feel a little less sad because of the common experiences you have.

It sounds like your weight loss efforts are taking over your life. I encourage you to speak with a counselor either at school, your mosque, temple, church, or community. Or even speak with a trusted adult. Talking about your sadness and frustration will help you feel more confident and will also help you lose more weight. Also, look to a friend on the bulletin board or chat room. There are many people who go through similar things as you. Be weight loss buddies and encourage each other to achieve HEALTHY weight loss!  Am I ready to lose weight?

=> I want to lose weight, but I'm not ready yet. How do I know if I'm ready?

 You need to start working on your weight loss when you are ready. Good for you for considering the best time to start! Since you want to lose weight, consider writing down how you will do it before you start. What will you try to change first? What will you drink? What will you snack on? What will you choose at school? What about exercise? Sometimes people write down what they eat before they start trying to lose weight. This will give you a good idea where to start.

Once you start thinking about how to lose weight, pick a date to start. Maybe you want to start after a big test since you will have more time. Maybe you want to start after spring break. Pick a date and stick to it! Good luck!


 Why can't I tell that I have lost weight?

=> hi ya!! I have lost 10 lbs so far, but i can't tell that i have. Is this normal?

 Yes, it is normal. People usually notice weight loss because their pants fit differently. Sometimes, though, the type of pants we wear may prevent that from happening. Some people who are overweight wear lots of stretchy clothes that will not feel different with 10 pounds of weight loss.
