 Setting a new schedule

=> how do i make a dietary scheduel so i can start eating better

Consider basing your schedule on when you feel hunger. Keep foods that are packed with protein and complex carbs with you all the time. Keep dry roasted peanuts, fruits, low fat yogurts, whole wheat crackers, etc handy. When you feel hunger, let yourself eat. Pay close attention while you are eating. When you feel the hunger go away...kind of like not hungry and not full...stop eating. Eating this way will make sure you are getting enough food and not too much. Good luck!

How much weight loss per week?

=> I'm way over weight i'm 12 and i'm 162lbs. I want to lose more then 2 lbs. a week but my mom said that loseing to much weight is bad. Is it? How much weight is good to lose in a week?

Losing weight is tough work. If a person does everything possible to lose weight, they still may not lose 2 pounds per week. For adults, 1 to 2 pounds per week is recommended as safe and doable. For kids and teens, that may not be possible. If a kid or teen is still getting taller, she or he may only be able to maintain her or his weight. Maintaining weight in this example is just as tough as losing weight as an adult. Some kids and teens who are no longer getting taller can lose 1 to 2 pounds per week or 1 to 2 pounds per month. The most important thing to keep in mind is that weight loss takes time. There maybe weeks when you do lose weight. And, other weeks when you do not. Keep on with your goals, though, and you will lose the weight. Best wishes!

 The dreaded plateau

=> Hi, I've hit a weight pleatu. I'm a thirteen year-old female who was 184 lbs in Feb. and now it's Dec. and I wiegh 167lbs, but now I'm stuck! I've been taking smaller steps to improve my eating habits and am trying to get in more exercise, but what else can I do? I've heard that eating bigger breakfasts or eating more calories helps, but I'm really confused! Any advice?

The weight loss plateau can be so frustrating! You can avoid a plateau by eating enough while losing weight. This means eating enough calories. Many kids and teens feel eating 1200 calories is best to lose weight; I do not agree. Many kids and teens need 1800 to 2200 calories to fuel their body enough and lose weight. If you are not eating enough, consider uping your calories so you are getting enough.

I encourage you to increase your calories by including more protein. When people do not get enough protein, a weight loss plateau can happen sooner. Consider finding high protein foods (lean meats, beans, low fat dairy) to eat at each meal.

Lastly, consider switching up your exercise. Maybe exercise longer each day. Or, try a new type of cardio to do one time per week. This has helped many other kids and teens break the plateau.

Above all, do not give up. You will lose weight again. Keep up the effort and you will get there!

It is SO tough being overweight!

=> Hey! The guys at my school are all to into themselves, selfish, and they tease me all the time for being so overweight. Sometimes I tell my sister and she jsut makes a big joke out of it! I really makes me feel even worse and I HATE THE FEELING THAT EVERYONE MAKES JOKES OUT OF ME! Its so stupid! I wish that the guys who tease could get a dosage of THE FEELING OF BEING SO OVERWEIGHT! How can you help me?

=> why am I overweight and picked on for it??

You are right. It is SO tough being overweight. It is hard for anyone to look and feel different. It is even worse when others point out that difference in a mean way. You may find support from others going through the same thing. Check out the bulletin board and chatroom of this site. There are hundreds of thousands of kids and teens who are going through the same thing as you. By getting support, you can feel more confidence. Good luck!

I am too poor to afford to lose weight!

=> i am only 12 and am 5'6" and weight 180 pounds and i am seriously obese and am to poor to buy thinngs to help me loos weight. please give me some advise on how to loss 60 pounds. please i need this. thanks!

Sometimes finding fresh fruit, veggies, and other foods can be tougher when you have less money. Also, it maybe too much money to join a gym. It sounds frustrating for you! Keep in mind one thing: you do not have to eat "perfectly" to lose weight. You can lose weight with the food you have access to now. One idea is to cut in half what you have now to choose from. This will help you eat less calories and loss weight. Also, be sure to eat only when you feel physical hunger. If you eat when you are bored or sad or another feeling, that can keep you from losing weight too.

Physical activity is a big part of this. You do not have to have a gym to lose weight. Many kids and teens have lost weight by just walking more often. They try to walk to school or around their block. If it is too unsafe to walk outside, other kids and teens will do exercises during commercials on TV. Some have rented exercise videos at the library. They are free and you can learn the routines to do on your own! Check out Densie Austin's "Walk Away the Pounds"...it is a great video so you can work out at home. Good luck!

 I have hit rock bottom!

=> i am a fourteen yearold girl adn i weigh 180lbs i really want to be at a weight of 115 my parents are at their last straw with it they are even threating to send me to place where they know i will lose weight i have givin up where did i go wrong what do i do please help me i'm at rock bottom and i need to get up you are my last hope WHAT DO I DO?

Feeling hopeless is a tough place to be. It sounds like you have tried and tried and not had any success. Maybe you have not been given the right "tool" to help you lose weight? Maybe the diets have failed YOU...not you failing the diets.

I think it is important to know that weight loss is REALLY tough. It takes thinking about it everyday. It takes lots of emotional support from friends and family. Also, weight loss does not require you to be a perfect eater...it just requires you to be patient.

I encourage you to start by keeping track of everything you eat each day. After you keep track for a few days, look it over. Pick one or two simple food goals to start. An example food goal would be drink one soda a day instead of five. Another would be eat a veggie or fruit at each meal. Get the picture? Every week, pick a new goal to help improve your eating. If you didn't meet the last goal, try again...or pick one that you KNOW you can meet.

Since losing weight is so tough, consider joining a weight loss support group or keep coming to WeighCool.com. Everyone here is going through the same thing. Others can tell you what they did when they hit rock bottom and got back up.

Believe this will happen for you. I believe it will! Good luck!

Help! My little sister is overweight!

=> im 15, and my 12 year old little sister is overweight. No one in our family can say anything about it because we dont want to hurt her feelings. She's really funny, and fun to be around but she has very low self-esteem, and has never thought she was pretty, as a big sister, what can i do?

You sound concerned about your sister. It also seems like you love her very much and want her to be happy and healthy. First, know that your sister probably realizes she is larger than her friends. She does not need someone telling her. Second, you cannot make her change her eating and exercise habits. I encourage you to not make hints about it. This will hurt her feelings. Instead, love her for who she is. Help her get to know her funny side more. If you love her the way she is now, whether she loses weight or not, she will learn from you that she can think better about herself. If she asks for advice to help herself lose weight, encourage her to move her body more through dancing or playing. Encourage her to come to this site to find others going through the same thing. Best wishes to you!

 Give me good foods!

=> Can you give me a list of good things to eat other than veggies and fruit to keep my weight down?

Great question! All foods are good and can be included in what you eat to help you lose weight. The MOST important thing to remember is to eat when you feel physical hunger. Stop eating when the physical hunger goes away. Do not eat when you are bored, sad, lonely, mad, or another feeling. When you find yourself eating at those times, phone a friend or jump on the boards on this site. Talk about what is going on instead of grabbing food. Good luck!

Why does weight loss get harder as you lose weight?

=> I'm not that much over weight since i've lost 20 pounds about 2 years ago. But my doctor says i need to lose another 20 -35 pounds. Even since i lost that weight 2 years ago its just really hard to even loose like 5 pounds. Why does it get harder and harder to loose the weight after you've lost so much??

=> ive been trying to loose weight and over the past 4-5 months ive lost almost 15 pounds. Problem is that Ive stopped loosing weight. I dont eat to much, i hardly eat anything at all, and i exercise all that i can. My doctor said that i might be eating too little but if i eat more then 1200 calories a day i gain weight. I cant eat more but i cant eat less and what im eating right now isnt helping me loose weight. Ive heard everything; eat more, eat less, exercise more, eat more fruit, eat more veggies, drink milk, drink green tea, ect ect ect! Do you have any advice that might be able to help me?

You are right, it DOES get a lot harder to lose weight after you lose some. You are not doing anything wrong. Losing weight can be stressful on a person's body. Over time, that stress makes it harder to break down fat for energy. Some experts think that a person is successful at losing weight if they lose 10% of their body weight. Many people cannot lose more than that no matter how hard they try. Here are some tips to keep in mind to maximize your weight loss:

1.) Be sure to eat 3 meals a day or try to eat 6 small meals a day. Eating consistently and more often can help your metabolism break down fat for energy.
2.) Be sure to get enough calories. Many kids and teen say they eat 1200 kcal or less per day...this is WAY TOO LITTLE! You need more than that. Eating that amount will make a person plateau sooner and make it harder for them to lose weight.
3.) Be sure to be moving (physical activity) for 60 minutes most days of the week. Research shows this helps more than anything else to get your metabolism going and keep your weight off. Good luck!

 Help! I have pre-diabetes!

=> Lucy i really need your help I have pre-diabeatis and i weigh 180 pounds 50 pounds over weight i hate the nigricans on my neck.I get sad when nothing fits me and see al those girls skinny and stuff.PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Hearing words like "pre-diabetes" and "acanthosis nigricans" can be scary. Please know that there are many things you can do to help your body be healthier. First, make sure you eat three meals a day and do NOT skip any meals especially breakfast. Also, try to eat these meals at the same time everyday. This will help your body get the energy from food better. It also will not put as much stress on your body. Another thing you can do to help your body is to move more often. Increasing your physical activity can help your body get healthier and not get diabetes. Try to move your body everyday. To read more exercise tips, click here.
