Well my target weight is about 190 pounds... thats the US Army standard for somebody my height and age.
Also, even if getting a girl friend isn't the case of my weightloss, it still is a HUGE relief off my mind. If i don't have to worry about what people think of me because im fat, that gives me a HUGE confidence boost and its one HUGE stress off my mind. Also i think if i can drop the excess fat, then i've already got the muscle for a nice six pack or some big-ol biceps lol. But a girlfriend isnt my main reason, its just one more factor that attributes to my motivation. I want to feel better physically and mentally, have more energy and endurance, and look better on a whole. Plus if I can get into shape for next football season I might have enough energy to play a game without having to be huffing and puffing all the way through it. On the subject of mostly girls being on this board, thats a big thing because there IS alot of pressure from the media and hollywood and such to look really good and be thin and such, but in the end you've got to do it for yourself.

Ht. 5'8", Start: 175 lb, Today: 160 lb (BMI %tile: 87), Goal: 150 lb - Recently I lost about 15 pounds...Today, I woke up and looked and the mirror and literally thought, "wow, who is this gorgeous girl". I mean...my self esteem was through the roof. Im not very big, 5'8 160, but i feel so refreshed. Being thin isnt about how you want to be portrayed by others...its how you want to portray yourself. After seeing how beautiful I really was, I was even more determined to lose weight. I need about 10 more pounds to be a size 5, and thats my goal. But right now, I think I've already reached my goal....loving myself. I know that some of you are not excepting yourselves, so thats why your losing weight. But you should except yourself before you do anything, because in the long run, losing weight wont make you feel any better about who you are. I hope I helped in some way....lol.

Hey everyone,I come to this site time to time looking for inspiration, and I usually find it. But the key in weight loss is not always looking for some quick fix, but for looking at a completely different outlook on life. I go to school every day with people some would call preps, buffies..etc..they're skinny, and "beautiful". But if you really think about it, what truly defines beauty? I can say that I have been overweight, but I had to accept what was me, and then want to change for myself...not because I was supposed to be skinny, but because I needed to be a healthy weight and truly feel comfortable. I noticed a remarkable change in my weight when I began to eat when I was hungry and not just because it was there or because it looked good to me. So, please don't just look for something short-term...and something that is unrealistic, because it will depress you and cause you to eat more...loosing weight with all these "quick" diets is not the key. But keep believing in yourselves, and want this for YOU and not everyone else. -Piccles

yeah i know how you feel, we all dream about being skinny, having the guys look at us, but do you really want guys to look at you because your "Hot", yeah ok me too, but thats not my point lol,
take a good look in the mirror, no matter what ANYONE thinks, you are beautiful, everywhere we turn we see gorgeous models, and books saying we should look like this, but we all are not like that, we need to be ourselves, lose weight slowly, because if you lose weight fast then you will gain it back because your body still thinks you are "over weight". no woman is the same size, and we should all be happy, by the way we look, but we aint, we get depressed from being over weight, we eat because we are depressed, and then we just get bigger, and feel more unhappy, but you know what, we can over power it, when you feel hungry or want something to eat, get something like a salad that has chicken ... I use to be overweight and although it doesn't make sense I felt inferior to others. I would shy away because I thought if I stood out or spoke up people would think I was just a stupid fat girl. America is horbibly prejudiced towards fat people (or ugly, or some other stuff that shouldn't matter either)So anyway I also felt I couldn't wear lots of different cloths because who wants to se a fat guy in a little shirt (my fav. line from Tommy Boy). People look at you differently when you are fat, even my grandmother was cold to me when I was overweight but now she is much more welcoming and friendly and even admitted that yeah she feels a lot better about me now that I'm not "ugly". Now that I am thin I feel much more confident, and like I can be me. So reach out to your friend and love and respect him/her because he/she probibly wants and needs acceptance. To all those of you who are still heavy- don't be afraid to be yourself because when I was over weight I wasted 3 years not because of the weight but because I let the weight bring me down.

I don't know if this works but I heard once that if you tell yourself everyday that you can lose weight and you are not going to give up while looking in the mirror it helps build your self-confidence so you wont feel you need to give up. It sounds weird I know. Like I said - I don't know if it works or not - but it couldn't hurt. Good Luck!!!!

I just want to encourage you all, and to help you gain a little perspective! It makes my heart hurt to see girls my age and younger consumed in misery over their outside, and feeling worthless because of it. By all means, lose weight! Be healthy! But love your body, and take good care of it. Don't let losing weight become your whole life, only let it be a small part. Take joy in your hobbies, do things that you love to do. Heck, take up a new one! I love vollyball, acting, and painting. And I love old movie stars and the 50's! redecorate your room. Let how you dress and act reflect your personal style. The more amazingly interesting you become, the more people want to know you and are attracted to you. It's the truth, I promise, but do it for YOU! I promise that people care about you, never insult yourself by underestimating your worth. You are worth more than the moon and stars!
