BlubberBusters Tips from Lucy

 Parent Chat with Ashlie RN

You may already know about Lucy RD chats for kids on Wednesdays. But did you know there are now Ashlie RN chats on Tuesdays for parents of overweight kids?

All types of parents come to chat with Ashlie RN. Some parents are overweight themselves, while others are of normal weight. No matter what their circumstances, ALL parents of overweight kids are welcome to Ashlie RN chats.

Overweight kids may find it difficult to talk with their parents about their eating problems. Some kids may choose to avoid the topic altogether with parents. Other kids may approach their parents but feel they still receive no support in their efforts to lose weight despite talks. Or some kids might find their parents would like their children to lose weight, but they don’t seem to be giving the right kind of support.

If you find communication between you and your parents about weight loss to be at a dead-end, strained or even non-existent, then consider asking your parents to visit the Ashlie RN parent chats available on Tuesdays.  If you are embarrassed to mention this to your parents, you might print the following on a piece of paper and leave it where your parent may see it:

Trying to lose weight is difficult enough to do alone, but a support network, including parents, can help make reaching your goals easier. The objective of Ashlie RN chats is to improve understanding and nurture positive relationships between overweight kids and their parents so that achieving weight loss can be a positive growing experience for all.
