I'm sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm in shock still about my son. I got a call that he had collapsed at school and went to the hospital. They told me it was a mild heart stutter brought on by obesity. I said that wasn't something 12 year olds had and they said yes but most 12 year olds don't weight 302 lbs. I couldn't believe it. I still don't. I know I hadn't weighed him in a while and I knew he was a few lbs overweight but thats more than his dad. He is hooked up to all these monitors and has oxygen and I can see his rolls and stretch marks and how large his chest is (bigger than mine!) and it is scaring me. I don't know what to do and I'm worried I'm going to lose my beautiful baby boy. Help.

My husband said he started missing school because he was falling asleep a lot. He also has knee and back pain and difficulty walking. So Sam stayed home and he made sure he didn't have to move much so that there wasn't pain and he could sleep lots. It sounds like he slept and played his playstation. My husband said he just got Sam good food. The doctor told us Sam has a lot of vitamin deficiency which I'm not sure how when he is so big.

Do you know why he’s missing school? What is he doing during the day? I don’t want to pass blame on you, but it’s concerning how you are not aware of what is going on. He’s 12 years old and you and your husband are providing most if not all of his food. He’s not getting to 300 at 12 by eating fruits and vegetables. You need to have a talk with your husband about what he’s feeding Sam and why he’s not going to school because honestly whatever your husband is doing is killing him. 4’10 and 302 is a BMI of 63 and that’s akin to an average 5’10 male being almost 450 pounds.

He is 4'10 which the doctor says is on the short side. My husband is a stay at home dad. He has worked from home since the pandemic and takes care of Sam, takes him to school, etc. I wake up after Sam has gone to school and work until late. When I come home Sam is usually sitting in his room so I hadn't really seen him move a lot for a long time now
My husband admitted Sam has really been struggling the last year with his weight and has actually missed a lot of school. This was the first day he had gone in months. A lot of the time when I thought Sam had already gone to school he was actually at home in his room.

Hi there, I’m sorry to hear about your son. It’s scary when a child collapses. I’m a medical professional and a few things I wanted to mention. One, a mild heart stutter will not cause one to collapse. That’s akin to an irregular heartbeat. There’s something more serious at play, which you should investigate. Two, in order to move forward you have to address the past. How did you not know that he was 300+ unless he’s at some massive height. I’m assuming there was some difficulty moving around, or very large clothes you had to buy. Difficulty fitting into places. At 12 you and your husband have full control over his eating and exercise. For him to be 300 at 12 you all must have been providing an excess of food and likely unhealthy junk food.
What do you need to do? It’s simple. He needs to eat less and move more. Walk around the block before dinner. Half of your plate filled with vegetables. No more fast food or tv dinners or unhealthy meals. No fried food.
