Hello everyone, I'm back again with another update on my son. Just to reply to some old comments, I started restricting video game time and making him go out to exercise but something tells me hes not actually exercising. He doesn't come back sweaty or hot, and is usually wiping away crumbs. I've asked but he wont say what he was actually doing. Hes still getting bigger, its hard for him to squeeze into the car now. Hes now opting to sit in the back so he has more room. Whenever something embarrassing happened(liking popping a button or breaking furniture), he was definitely embarrassed but never did something about his weight. My brother and my father tend to make passing comments as well about how tubby he's getting, but he doesn't seem to mind. No family history of obesity, most people seem to discourage his hefty weight. He was pretty chubby before his mom passed, but has since ballooned to an enormous size. Any suggestions on how to tackle my boy's expanding waist.

I don't mean to sound negative, Dave, but if your son is like my son he probably feels his weight isn't a problem and may resent your efforts to control is weight. It's very frustrating. My son is always polite when I speak with him about his weight and voracious appetite but he has money I have no control over (long story, custody agreement with his paternal grandmother) so I know he buys all the food he wants when I'm not around.

Also,if you working out with him isn't possible than any friend, or sibling that can workout with him so that you also know that he is exercising. At his size I think exercise is what will help only. What type of food does he eat and how much? After school what's his routine, how sedentary is he?

Dave, what sort of exercise are you making him do? Is there any chance other than sending him alone to exercise you both exercise at home, how big is his waist in inches? Will he be able to do sit ups or basics like crunches, squats at home only do that you can ensure that he's working out?

I dont know how heavy he is now, I'll have to get him on a scale soon. I try to cook as many healthy meals for dinner as possible and keep ver few snacks and junk around the house. Lunch and breakfast are made by the school and I'm assuming aren't the healthiest, combined with whatever he buys himself. Be sure to update us on your son when you see him again.

Hi Dave, sorry to hear that your son has gotten even larger. Good that you are restricting video games, but it is concerning that he is not taking his exercise seriously. How large do you think he has gotten? How are your eating habits in the house - though it does seem that most of his food intake is from outside the house. I’m sort of in the same predicament with Jason, I haven’t seen him since the end of August (I work away from home) and will see him soon. Whenever I talk to my wife she hasn’t cooked and is usually eating some unhealthy stuff so I can only assume that he has gotten larger. I know he doesn’t exercise at all. Not sure what to do either.
