My daughter is pretty big. I don't know how much she weighs or anything, but she's fatter than any of her friends and I often cannot find anything in stores that fits around her waist. That's not the issue though; what really worries me is her fitness.
In an attempt to get her more active, I convinced her to join me in a selection of exercises. However, she could hardly do any of them! She couldn't do any sit-ups, couldn't even hold her own weight, never mind do a pull-up. Her stomach is too big to do a press-up; it touches the ground when her arms are fully extended. When we tried some running, she was exhausted and gasping for breath after 30 seconds gentle jogging. I'm really worried, because apparently she's late for classes because she has to rest at the top of staircases after climbing them.
How should I approach this? She seems very unwilling to do any more exercise, as she says it made her chest hurt badly last time.

Thanks for the reply.
On Saturday, Kim stopped breathing in the night. Luckily, I noticed quickly and called the ambulance, and she's okay now, but the doctors say she has diabetes type two, very high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, asthma and a few other things. She's still in the hospital now, but thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind when we get her home.
Hopefully, with the doctors' help, we can overcome this challenge and get Kim healthy.

Try shopping online for your daughter's clothes, there are quite a few sites that have stylish clothing for bigger girls. Also, I know it might be embarrassing at first but look for clothing in the maternity section of stores as you might be able to find cute & stylish clothes that will accommodate her larger tummy area and no one will know but her that they are maternity clothes. As for exercising don't push her so hard, try doing simple things like walking around the block, stretching, & swimming. Remember things that my be simple for you are not necessarily simple for overweight/obese people, so take it slowly and up the difficultly once she is able to do it. As for her being late for class due to her difficultly in climbing stairs, you need to contact her school and let them know what's going on. Try to have them give her more time to get from class to class or to have her use an elevator if the school has one instead of the stairs, you could also try to have the school have all of her classes on the 1st floor so she can avoid the stairs altogether. About her chest pain take her to the doctor to make sure it is not anything serious and have her doctor check for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol as many young obese kids now have these conditions. I know what you are going through as I have a young obese daughter myself who weighed nearly 300 pounds last year and has last 30 pounds so far from going from an unhealthy lifestyle leading to her potential early young death due to obesity to a healthy lifestyle that will allow her to have the long healthy life she deserves.
