I know that my daughter is not really a child anymore but I am very concerned about her weight. She is about 5'5" and 250lbs. She was very thin up until the age of about 10 when some things came out about her uncle molesting her. From then on she just gained weight. My side of the family is very thin, but her dads side is quite heavy. I'm not sure if it is a hereditary matter or stress from what happened to her. We had her thyroid tested when she was about 12 and there wasn't anything wrong with it then so I'm not sure what it is. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Weight gain is one way victims of molestation cope. I know this from experience. My thinking was that if I look ugly or fat, no one will want anything to do with me. Counseling via talk therapy and an anti-depressant really helped. I weigh less now than I did in college. However, it took a counselor with guts to ask - When did the weight gain begin? It wasn't until I was directly asked that very painful question that I began my recovery.

you can't really make her lose weight, infact no one can make anyone lose weight. the reason she probably gained weight was a way of dealing with the molesation,

Exercise and healthy eating are the key to weight loss. Getting rid of junk food helps to. A good idea would be to take up an exercise or pilates class.
