Hello, I'm a stepmother of a 7 year old boy who is 3'11" and 62 pounds. At age 5 he was 65 pounds. It's been a struggle to keep his weight between 60-65 pounds. My thoughts have been that he could grow into his weight. However the struggle mainly stems from his grandparents and aunt and uncle whom he spends a lot of time with. I have talked to them many times about the importance of good healthy eating habbits, but they just don't seem to listen. They feed him food as though he is an adult man as well as unlimited amounts of high fat and sugar snacks. He has gained as much as 3-4 pounds in a one week visit with them. Any suggestions on how I can either accept this or get them to work with me instead of against me?

The only way for the family to listen is for you to lay down the rules to them-and forbid them to give the child unhealthy things. Give them a consequence. Otherwise, they don't listen. They think because they've raised children that they know best-but they don't
