Ht. 5'1", Start: 135.5 lb, Today: 135 lb (BMI %tile: 96), Goal: 105 lb - Hi, My name is Angela. And I'm "obese" on their scale. My brother got me a Wii Fit for my birthday because he didn't want me to suffer and go through people making fun of me. I tried to do it everyday, but it just gets tiring standing on this stupid board all day. I spent about 30 minutes on it each day, but then I got sick of it. I finally found a site where kids just like me have the same problem. I see all of those actors and models on T.V. and Magazines and then I just say, "I wanna be just like that." I have a problem with eating and my dad was telling me that he doesn't want me to get too obese. My dad is on a diet, and trying to get me to eat healthier. Parents don't understand how hard it is to drop the soda, junk food, salty, and sugary items and put them aside. My friends tell me I'm not "fat." I don't really believe them because they are like my best friends and they are nice to me. This one time, I liked this boy... and I asked him out (through text message). And he told me that he wouldn't want to go out with me because I'm too fat. People say "I'm mean to myself" because I say I'm fat and I need to lose weight. But it's the truth. I'm trying to involve myself into more sports. In my P.E. class, we have to run 5 minutes non-stop each day, and I have a nice and steady pace. Even my thinner friends are a little behind me. I try being fast and try to lose weight because I don't want to be just some "fat kid." I told my dad I wanted to do 3 sports because I've only been in one sport, Cross-County, but I guess it wasn't a good sport for your first try. So, automatically, I quit the second week. I was panting on the side, walking when I wasn't suppose to, almost dying, having a heart attack. (Last part exaggerated.) I guess it feels kind of good to tell my story to the world. i'm trying to loose 30 pounds this year, because I want to be fit for next year, and I want guys to like me. Some like me for my personality .. but the others like girls for their personalities and looks. I cry when a guy says I'm too fat or someone gets mad at me and uses my weight against me. I'm not so much chubby in my face or anything. But it's just around my stomach, but it doesn't POP out as much. My arms aren't too fat too not look normal. But my thighs are pretty big and I want to shrink down on my pants size. If you can relate to this, PLEASE reply! I need responses. Thanks :).

Well, a BMI of 25.5 isn't anywhere near obese. Look the information up... obese is a BMI of 30 or greater, so it's giving conflicting information. Since every other BMI calculator I use gives the same BMI, then the mistake must lies in the part where it says a person who is 5'1" and 135 pounds is obese, because at that height and weight a person is 4.5 points away from obesity, far closer to a healthy weight than to being obese... it gave the right BMI, which is the important part, the rest doesn't matter so much.

Well, for starters, you're not OBESE. Your BMI points to you being VERY slightly overweight. By less than a whole point, so it's not something to freak out about really. Obese is a BMI of 30 or greater, and yours is only 25.5. A healthy BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9, so you're really only .6 away from having a healthy BMI. Which isn't bad at all. You'd only have to lose 3 pounds to get rid of that .6 and be at a BMI of 24.9, which is considered healthy. But I get that it's toward the upper end of your range, and you'll likely want to lose more, I'm just saying this so that you know it's not some big impossible feat. Thirty pounds is a lot to lose, and you could actually lose weigh less and still be perfectly healthy. Fit doesn't always mean skinny. It's not like the thinner someone is, the fitter they are, so you might wanna aim for losing less. Especially since you're younger, you're probably not finished growing and developing, and chances are you'll grow a few inches, and that can even out your weight, it happens for a lot of people. Losing 30 pounds puts you at the lower end of your weight range, so if you were to grow a few inches it could leave you underweight, which isn't very healthy. At your age, I usually don't think it's a good idea for kids to try to lose so much weight, because chances are, you will continue to get taller, and losing weight can be harmful to growth and development, unless you do it right. So maybe aim for losing 10 or 15 pounds max, and you should be losing no more than 1 pound a week. (You may have heard 2 pounds per week, but that's really for adults, because losing more than a pound a week that can harm someone who is still developing.) As for the junk food the trick is, to just make healthier choices over all, don't tell yourself you can NEVER have those things again, but just that you can't have them all the time. It also tends to make those treats A LOT more enjoyable because you don't have them all the time. For exercise, you seem to get the idea, but if wii fit is boring to you, find something you like. You don't have to be on a sports team, if that's not your thing, even if you just like dancing to music in your room, or jumping rope, or walking around your neighborhood, then that's fine. As long as your active, you don't have to be a star athelete or anything to be healthy, you just have to get out and move. And as for what that boy did, forget him. You want to find a guy who doesn't care what you look like at all. If all that guy cares about is weight, what if you had been "thin" enough for him to want to date you? I garuntee he would've treated you horribly. Guys like that are never the kind you want to go for. And hun, poeple are right when they say you're mean to yourself. First off, you're not fat. You're not just some fat kid. You a person, a human being, and your special, and what you weigh can't change that. If you stop calling yourself fat, I bet you'll find that you'll be happier because of it. No one likes being teased or put down, but I don't think people realize that it still hurts even if you're just doing it to yourself. It can destroy your self-esteem, so be nice to yourself. Be positive. Good luck, hun! <3
