From Jenna, Age 18 - 3/10/02 - IP#: 205.188.192.xxx Thanx 2 U all who replied. I'll consider your input. I have spring break in a couple of weeks. i plan on going out of town and since i won't be able to exercise as much while i'm out of town do you think it will be safe to take my calories down to 800 for just one simple week? Since it's just one week i don't think it will hurt much.

From Michelle, Age 14 - 3/10/02 - IP#: 63.168.31.xxx I don't want to sound like anybody's mother, but I can't stress enough to get good nutrition. I've read about some athletes such as runners and people who do gymnastics and in those sports, being the thinnest you can be means the better job you can do performing. These athletes don't eat properly, instead they take the easy way and eat all the low calorie drinks and stuff to make themselves skinny, or even worse, they don't eat at all and become anorexic, or they might even turn bulimic. Too bad to burst all your guys' bubble who believe you can get off on 500 calories a day, which is what some of them do, and in their mid 20's, you heard me right BETWEEN 20 and 25 they develope osteoperosis, cronic back pains, and fastly degrading immune systems because they didn't get the proper nutrition. Now, if you want to be super skinny right now and pay for it the rest of your life, go ahead, but it's not worth it for me. Us teenagers have the uncanny ability to not look into our future, so we don't plan ahead, and we don't think of the effects of what we do to our body. And we don't think to what might happen to us, because as far as we know, it's a lifetime away, and really, who needs to think about it? WE DO. I'm forcing you to take a look at what you can do to your body now and what that is gonna make your future like. Do you really want to be in a wheel chair when your 30 because you starved yourself of proper nutrition when you were 15 to get the guy in biology to ask you out, and now, at your school reunion, you find out he married some girl who is 300 pounds. Do you really want to throw your life away, or do you want to take it step by step and help your body for the rest or your life? It's up to you, but remember, you have to live with yourself for a lifetime. Please tell me what you think of this message!

From Kelli, Age 17 - 3/10/02 - IP#: 216.54.158.xxx In the list you are going to make you need to include needed nutrients for your body.
From Kelli, Age 17 - 3/10/02 - IP#: 216.54.158.xxx All right J_Lynn I don't want to fight with you but how about you make a list of food for to eat that equals up to 500 calories and lets see if everyone agrees with it. And to make my point clear I didn't say eat a cheese pizza and 5 oranges for a day. I was just saying that would you like to ONLY eat 5 oranges a day. Now lose the attitude. People are getting fed up with it.
From candy, Age 13 - 3/11/02 - IP#: 202.156.76.xxx ok ppl... we soooo DO NOT listen to j_lynn cuz we know how bad it is to starve ourselves and hurt our metabollism. if you wanna diet, just cut out all sweet or fried or oily foods and exercise more. luv_candy88@hotmail.com
From j_lynn, Age 16 - 3/10/02 - IP#: 216.90.103.xxx wow. thats very interesting. who would eat 5 oranges a day on a diet??? 5 oranges...cheese pizza...someone has a warped sense of D-I-E-T

The F-R-U-I-T that you mentioned is sometimes high it calories too. I looked up a orange and it is about 100 calories for one orange so would you like to eat 5 oranges for the whole day?

From j_lynn, Age 16 - 3/9/02 - IP#: 216.90.103.xxx ok this is for "me age 13", ok what you are doing sounds great. how long have you been on this diet? See, the thing is you dont truely see results until weeks or even months after starting you diet/workout routine. your body takes time to adjust to changes being made. you MUST be patient- you know its worth it. NEXT QUESTION- are you counting your calories or guessing? and what exactly are you eating?? you need to balance things out- bread-veggies-fruit-dairy

From >>>, Age 12 - 3/9/02 - IP#: 64.12.96.xxx I have an extremely overweight friend, who dosnt even seem to notice how overweight she is. She eats a lot and all the time...i dont know how to tell her that she is overweight, and shouldnt eat like that. She dosnt even care that people tease her constantly, and that its harder for her to do certain things. I feel real bad for her, and i feel bad myself for not doing anything. But, i dont know how to tell her. PLEASE reply with any ideas. I need to tell her someway, and soon.

From Gretchen, Age 15 - 3/9/02 - IP#: 148.63.223.xxx Actually, I HAVE talked to my doctor about weight loss. You, j_lynn, are right. 500 calories is not starving yourself, yet. But if you continue to stay on a diet which only allows the intake of 500 calories a day, you will not last long. Your body will not have the energy it needs. You will become weak, tired, and irritable. After a week, at the least, you could go into starvation mode. That is not a healthy, or effective plan.
From Kelli, Age 17 - 3/9/02 - IP#: 206.31.43.xxx J_Lynn, Eating less slows down your metabolism. You don't want to lose it too fast because you can gain it back faster. 500 calories is not even close to being enough. One piece of cheese pizza is 500 calories and I dont think thats all that everyone wants to eat every day. Please look at your diet plan a little more carefully. Starving yourself to 500 calories is kind of like being anorexic. My friend died from that diease and I don't want to see that happen to anyone else. So if you are reading this please don't take J_Lynn's advice.~Kelli~
