Ashley is right. You can't survive on less than 1200 calories a day. You can seriously hurt your body if you eat less than that. The best thing to do is exercise off the extra calories with controlled moderate exercise. You should eat about 1800-2400 calories a day (girls lower, guys higher) then exercise for about a half an hour. If you notice, most skinny people are in sports or some type of group or class that keeps them moving. Skipping meals slows your metabolism, while eating right and exercising keeps your metabolism running the fastest it can. Just think of it as a burning fire. A fire needs fuel and oxygen to stay bright and burning. We get fuel from the food we eat and oxygen from exercising. Please take care of your body, you have to live with it for a life time.

To j_lynn: PLEASE DO NOT TELL ANYONE TO EAT SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF CALORIES!!! It is unhealthy and dangerous and you have no right putting the lives of teens in danger! I am not trying to be mean to you, as I am sure you have the best of intentions. I am merely trying to tell you that what you are telling them is very dangerous. I am glad it turned out ok for you but to tell other teens to try it is just plain dangerous. Also, you don't have to use the word hell in every message you send! Enough already. Please, sweetie, help others by giving them healthy tips and email me or send me a message if you want to. Ashley tulipgirl1@hotmail.com

This message is for VineVixen17 and to all the other teens out there...please don't ever try anorexia or bulimia. Those aren't diets. They are eating disorders which can eventually kill you. And to VineVixen17, I remember exactly how it was to be in your shoes. I am also 5'5". I now weigh 130 lbs and I am so proud of the body I now have. I am healthy, I eat right and exercize, and I am in my target weight range. Please don't try to starve yourself just to be a size 2. At your height, a size 2 would look anorexic. I will help you in anyway I can but you have to promise me, and yourself, that you will only try healthy ways. Are you drinking a lot of cokes? Sorry, I am from the south and in the south, when we say coke we mean any kind of soda. Cokes are high in sugar and sugar turns into fat if it isn't burned off. ANyway, email me or send me messages here and I will support you in way I can. Take care and good luck! Ashley

People, People. what the hell is your major malfunction??? YOU ALL ARE DOING IT ALL WRONG. TRY THIS: 500-1000 calories a day. 15-30 min of some sort of exercise. Do this for about a month. JUST TRY IT FOR CHRIST SAKE. This worked for me. I have battled for 5 years with my weight and self esteem. I am real curious to see if what worked for me will help others. Remember to count your calories. Write them down. Plan your meals ahead of time. Stick to chicken istead of red meat. If you guys need help post me up a message i have tons of answers. Lotta love- l8ter

I posted this earlier as a reply, but I wanted everyone to see it because I think it is an important message. Take it from me, guys...I was an overweight teen but I am 25 now and healthy. Please listen to educated adults and not other kids who are also trying to lose weight (for the record, l-o-o-s-e spells loose, the opposite of tight...l-o-s-e spells lose, as in lose weight). Anyway, read these tips and good luck losing weight. 1) You cannot gain calories...you gain fat. Calories are made up of the energy in food and burning calories refers to the amount of energy you use when losing the fat. 2) Bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice should be kept to a minimum, because they are high in carbs, which is a form of sugar, which eventually turns into fat if it is not burned off as energy. Whole wheat bread is good in moderation. 3) Skipping meals can slow down your metabolism, and losing weight will be even harder. 4) Exercise a little everyday, even if it is dancing around your room, walking the dog, or jump-roping in the yard. 5) Eat fruits and veggies and drink LOTS of water. If you must have a soft drink have only one every other day and make it diet. 6) Last but most important...Don't lose weight just to gain acceptance from friends and the community. Real friends love and accept you the way you are and will support you if and when you decide to lose weight. Also, to those who are worried that boys will never ask them out, I worried about that too but, believe me, your time will come and the boys will start knocking on your door. Guys, I know this was a long message but please be careful, because you can really hurt your body if you don't know what you are doing. See a doctor and follow his/her advice. Email me if you have any questions. Good luck!!! tulipgirl1@hotmail.com

I can tell you the one reason most of you are here. No matter what you may think, this is true. You are here because the fashion or style excepted right now is to be waft like and the "I'll blow in the wind because I'm so skinny" look. It's not good, and all your trying to do is fulfill an unrealistic goal set by the media which every girl (and most guys) think is the only way to happiness. WRONG!!!! Styles change. I don't want to lecture you, but this a brief history of what was considered for women the "perfect" body. In the paintings you see in the Renisance, you can see women who have a full figure, but are not really fat. By today's standards they would be considered obese with about a 36 inch waist. Then, later in history, women who were "large and round with plump bodies" were considered healthy and mostly wanted. These women weighed on the average of 200-250 pounds and considered perfect. Then came the dreaded age of the corset. Women strove for a hourglass figure, and hurt themselves in the process. They would lace the corsets so tight, it would squeeze internal organs, break ribs, and cause women to faint, all in vain for "the perfect" body, and the "perfect" waist of about 18 inches. Then, in the early 1900's women started taking on more of a boyish look with the exceptance of women wearing trousers. The 1950's "perfect" body was like that of Marilyn Monroe, who wore a size 14 and almost everyone considered the perfect and most beautiful woman of her time, and we still do. Then the 1960's and 70's came around and also the popularity of the model know as "Twiggy" who was the first truely Skinny model of her time, and models have, shall I say, been modeled after her ever since. Now the perfect size is a 1 or 2, which few obtain, and never keep. So, don't try to lose weight because you want to fit in with style, because the truth is, styles change, but you will have to live with you for a life time. Don't strive for goals that are only obtained through hurting yourself, it's not worth it. You can only be happy with you. P.S. Don't feel bad because models are prettier than you, they are chosen because they are abnormal, not because they represent almost 95%of the population which will never get below a size 5 and stay there. Also, you are not alone because the average size of a woman today is a size 16. The only way to happiness is to be healthy mind, body, and soul.Good luck!!
