Continued from Sherri, Child's Age 11

... She has a strong sense of self and for that I am so very proud of her. Thru the years she has been teased but we have always worked thru it together. A goal that she has set for herself and is very determined & focused to acheive is to try out for cheerleader at the end of 6th grade. She just finished 4th grade. In our area, realistically, in order to make cheerleader, a bare minimum requirement is a round off back handspring. I know, it is ridiculous and I was really happy that she was more a "sports" kid than the cheer type but she has altered her focus even though she is still playing sports. This is why she has the tumbling lessons. Her tumbling instructor told me last week that she "might" be able to acheive this goal by 6th grade. The reason he says "might"and not "definitly" is because of her weight. It does make sense but it is the first time that her weight has become a possible obstacle in the way of her goals. I consulted our family doctor & he has said that he is willing to possibly put her on a program of a low dose of phentermine and multi metabolic booster vitamins. He would do blood work before beginning the program to rule out any health problems. I monitor the food that the entire family eats. We eat healthy as much as possible as her older brother has type 1 diabetes & we all eat as he does. Finally......my question...... Has anyone ever considered doing this? Putting their child on "diet pills"? Has anyone actually done it and what were the results? I would appreciate any help. Thank you!
