I'm writing about my 8 year old foster son, Kevin. Fall break ends tomorrow and he goes back to class. I noticed at breakfast today his school jeans are too tight. Just got him new jeans not long ago. Got him on the scale and he weighs 108. That's a 60 pound gain since he came to us at the beginning of March. My older Son Lane didn't start gaining weight until he was older. Any advice? Kevin really likes to eat and I don't don't want to deprive him.

Both my boys have put on a bit as well, but December is not a good time to try to change that. I let them enjoy, and we will see in January. Chatting would be nice!

Bottomless is what i can also say about my boys. and you can't say about 'normal' eating, they gobble everything up as if tomorrow was the last day.
besides, my little son 9 told me the other day how much he loves to be fat and that he also wants to weigh as much as the big one.

Kevin eats until he's full, then stops. When he first came to us and he was very thin, he once ate so much he threw up, but that was only once. His preference is peanut butter sandwiches, He likes anything Reese's too. A new thing for him is Nutella. Yesterday afternoon we came home from school and McD's and a couple hours later we had to pick up Lane from football practice and I found Kevin watching television and eating Nutella from the jar with a spoon. I told him we were going to have lasagna for dinner and he'd better save room for it. He just said OK and kept eating. Later he ate two helpings of lasagna plus salad and a glass of milk.

I know very well what you mean! Same here with both boys. Well, I am a big eater myself, but I usually never have a snack before dinner or food, that happens after eating. The boys seem to be able to snack at any time. Which snacks do you usually have in the house? I try to have lots of fruit, which they love, but we also have chocolate, pastries and sweet options here.

Yeah, Mike also snacks a whole lot.
Is Kevin also like eating so much until he can't anymore?
Mike always eats until he gets sick, the only thing that stops him is literally not being able to cram more food down.
I swear the little kid is bottomless sometimes
Do you have something like discord? It could be good to keep up with our kids srudd more often?

Jonas, I'm always amazed when I know we're going to have dinner in an hour and I see Kevin getting a snack. I tell him we'll be eating soon and he says he's hungry. If I say no, he pouts. So I give in. Then at dinner he eats like he's starving. Extra helpings, much bigger portions then when he was thin. It's like the more weight he puts on, the hungrier he is. I don't get it!

I get ya, my son Mike is 8 yo and also putting on loads of weight.
To be honest part of it is that he used to live with his mom until she got custody taken away, and he didn't have the best time there.
So, making him feel happy and not stressed is y priority.
He has lots of food food I security and doesn't deal well with arguments.
But yeah, he's 147 pounds last I checked a few weeks ago.

We stop at McDonald's every day after I pick Kevin up from school. It's a habit we got into last spring. We talk about how school went that day. Kevin likes McFlurries along with cheeseburgers and fries and I get something to eat too On weekends usually the whole family has a fast food meal both days School dayse brings lunch from home, 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies and fruit and he buys milk.like you said about your son, clothes right now are the problem. Kevin has big legs and a very big backside so the legs are way too long. Luckily he likes denim jeans so rolling up the legs isn't a problem. My older son Lane has to wear his jeans that way too. Kevin has to wear a logo polo shirt for school but luckily the distributor has a full range of sizes except the latest shirts I had to buy for him are long but the school requires they be tucked in so no problem.

I know the clothes issue so well! Nown my oldest uses adult sizes, so not too hard, but clothing for the youngest, which is the same age and slightly bigger, is a struggle, yes! The big husky sizes are made for taller boys. I want him to have clothes that fit well and look good, not only too long sweatpants. How does he carry the weight? That can be a challenge for clothes. McDonalds and other fast food places are our guilty pleasure too. How often do you go there? We end up a few times a week.

Since Kevin quit soccer he's not very active. He's responsible for taking care of Chico, his dog. Takes him for walks, etc. He seems happy, likes school and has friends there. He doesn't seem concerned about his size. Yesterday when we went shopping for new clothes, it took a long time finding stuff that fits, even in husky sizes. You know how it goes, if the legs fit the seat is too small. We had to go to Walmart, Target, and Macy's. Afterwards we stopped for a snack at McD's and he ordered a whole meal even though we had a big lunch before we went shopping

It is good that his relationship with food is better than it used to be. How is his physical activity level now without soccer? If you and your older son are big eaters and bigger yourself, it will be natural for him to feel normal being bigger too. Is he happy with his "new" body, or does he complain or is bullied in school?

Kevin was very skinny when he came to us, so we encouraged him to eat more, took him to McDonald’s every day after school for a snack, encouraged him to eat more at dinner by giving him extra dessert if he ate everything. He played soccer last spring but told me last month he didn't want to play anymore. When I asked him why he told me he doesn't like the running. When I get him a Happy Meal now (he collects the toys) he asks for an extra cheeseburger. He's got a tummy and snacks a lot. My older son and I are both big eaters so there's always a lot of food

That is a pretty quick weight gain, yes. How is his body handling it? Like, muscle mass and stamina, general mobility? I suppose if gaining a lot of weight quickly, it can be quite a change in a short time. He is not that big, if he has a normal height, but still I guess that weight is enough to be somewhat chubby.
