Hello fellow parents. I'm a single mom and I have 2 kids, of which my 15 year old son is overweight. I'm really desperate for any tips or help. He used to be slightly bigger than average, about 80kg/175 pounds around 2 years ago during a doctors check up. 2 days ago he once again got on the scale at the doctors (preparation for a minor surgery on his hand) and he exceeded the weight limit of 150kg on the medical scale. (around 350lbs)

Has anything happened in your son's life that could've contributed to your son's massive weight gain? My older son died suddenly 2 years ago at age 13, and my younger son (who was chubby) ballooned afterwards. The corona lockdowns have affected all of us, too. Boys your son's age are very sensitive about how they look and also have a strong desire to be in control of their lives. I think that explains why he doesn't want to discuss it with you. Have you discussed your son's huge weight gain with his doctor?

Also I don't know his exact weight as he won't tell me and I can't force my 15 year old son to hop on the scale...

The big problem is that he does not want to talk about it at all, not his relationsship with food and especially not the weight itself. I've tried to cook healthier and I refrained from buying unhealthy snacks, all to no avail. My son stays inside all the time and constantly hungry or eating. I'm afraid that I will ruin our relationship if I take action by forcing him to do something he doesn't seem to want at all... what am I to do?
