My daughter Phoebe has gained 55 lbs in the past year. I noticed some weight gain before COVID, but since COVID the increase has become more rapid. Looking back, she was a healthy weight until she was 8, when her BMI started gradually increasing. I managed to get her on the scales yesterday and she weighs 230 lbs. She is only 5'2". I have two other daughters (one older and one younger) who have always been a healthy weight and neither me nor her father are overweight. We did investigate whether there was a medical reason for her weight gain, but everything was ruled out. As I suspected, she eats too much and exercises too little. I can't get her to move and we limit the amount of junk food in the house, but she still overeats on healthy food and it's hard to control, especially now she's a teenager. We try to talk to her about it, but she just tunes us out.

Hi kay, I understand your issues I really do it’s good that we are going through the same thing because we can help each other out. My daughter waist is about 57 her legs are about 52 I understand you. My daughter had bed wetting probables and it’s because she told my husband it’s because she doesn’t want to walk to the bathroom because it hurts and because she is big she when she walks it’s hard for her. Have to told your daughter about the weight problems I made my girl watch supersize vs super skinny (The kid one tho) she understood for a week but then when back in to old habits try and get back to me on email annmorris@live.co.uk

Hi Ann, She just doesn't care about the health consequences. We took her to the doctors just before lockdown because her bedwetting had become more frequent and he said her weight was likely exacerbating the issue and explained the other risks related to obesity, but she ignored him. It was my older daughter's birthday the other day and we laid out a birthday buffet for her because she was down about not being able to enjoy it with her friends and my daughters said Phoebe was sneaking food every time our backs were turned. I saw her get one heaped plate, which was more than I would've liked, but she wouldn't listen to me. Her sisters said she got the more plates after that. Good often mysteriously disappears and confronting her about it turns into a huge argument. We're at a loss and are really worried for her health. She just doesn't know when to stop eating. Where we live, school hasn't started yet and kids have to wear uniform. I got her to try on her uniform from last year, though I knew it wouldn't fit, I was hoping to be able to alter them. I was shocked, it really showed how much she'd gained. I measured her waist and it was 59". That's pretty much the same as her height. I've booked a doctor's appointment for tomorrow.

I get you my girl is the same 14 year old 252 pounds (one older sibling and one younger sibling they are very heathy) but she won’t walk about and it’s hard to watch when they get out of breath quite easily. Have you told her the risks of being overweight because I told my daughter and she said she loved being fat and I didn’t understand that’s why she won’t lose weight but me and her father are trying. If you sit her down and tell her she might understand more.
