My son Lane and I met with people at the Pediatric Obesity Clinic last Friday. Lane had a complete physical (he had blood tests Thursday). The good news is that he shows no signs of pre-diabetes. His blood pressure and cholesterol are normal but that means he still needs to lose weight. He's 4'8.5" and weighed 218, 130 more than he should. I was...

,,,suggesting this for a month and he finally agreed. The boys will be "camping out" in sleeping bags in the living room. I'm in a group for parents who have lost a child, and it has helped. I think of my boy constantly, at least I'm not so angry at myself any more.

...Monday he weighed 223. He's wearing Leo's old clothes (the jeans legs are rolled up) and this morning I noticed he was struggling to fasten the waist button, trying to suck in his big belly. This Saturday he's having 3 friends send the night. Guess that's a good sign, right? I've been...
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 12/18/19  - IP#: addition to 3 meals a day. Evenings he snacks continuously, not on candy or chips (I don't buy them) but he makes sandwiches, cheese, lunchmeat. Sandwich fixings I buy to last a week he can eat in an evening. If I tell him he's had enough, he just says he's hungry. At his last Clinic visit on...

...he seems fine, even happy. At home, I'm sleeping in Leo's old bed (the boys shared a room, twin beds) because Lane won't sleep alone in the room. I work at my office, and when I get home there's enough trash in the bin (empty peanut butter jars, etc. to show Lane is eating non stop after school..

We've had appointments at the Obesity Clinic the last 2 Mondays. Lane's psychologist told me she's in a quandary. He goes into her office, she asks him how's he's doing and he starts to cry, continuing for the whole hour. He's still mourning his brother. At school and with extended family...

I agree, Jesse, it is sweet of Lane to do that. It shows that he can handle physical activity, too, heavy as he is. You need to keep him active as possible to burn up excess calories. Good luck to you and Lane.

We had almost 9" of snow last night. No school today. After breakfast Lane went to our elderly neighbors next door and shoveled their walk and driveway on his own and refused to accept money for it. How's that for being a good kid? I'm so proud of him.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 11/27/19  - IP#: see him unhappy. I've found candy and snack cakes hidden in his room, which worries me. I asked him why and all he says is he's hungry. I'd rather have him eat his full at meals than sneak food.

Janis, he hasn't said anything. I've been trying to serve more veggies and less starch at meals but it's hard. After a meal an hour later he's making sandwiches. I tell him we just ate and his answer always is that he's hungry. I confess I then let him eat. After all that's happened I can't stand...

How does Lane feel about your visit to the Clinic?

...told me afterwards he is still is grieving for Leo (which I already knew). We go back again on Dec. 5. In the meantime I'm working at trying to get us to eat healthier. Lane loves veggies and fruit which helps. I started attending a group of parents who have lost children last week.

...interviewed about his development, his mom's pregnancy, and her and my health history. The toughest part was talking about my oldest son. Even though I emailed them about his passing he was brought up a lot. That made it hard for Lane. A counselor met with him separately for an hour and..
