My son, has always been a bigger kid but never really fat until now. He joined the school swim team 2 years ago, and now the weight is just coming on. At 6 foot 4, its easy for him to disguise his eating as necessary, but what once used to be maybe just a soft belly, has turned into one that really sticks out. He started this year at 170, but has ballooned to 200 and im scared that he will only get bigger.

Your son has a BMI of 24.4 due to which he is on the verge of being overweight. Cut out the junk and that will do the magic.

It sounds like your son has a slender frame, so a chubby tummy is really noticeable even though it technically doesn't make him overweight. Does he say anything about his tummy? Has he had to buy new clothes?

Hi Zach, if your son is 6’4 and 200, technically he is not even overweight. I’m sure he looks different since he was probably skinnier before, but he is still healthy in terms of weight. At this stage I would focus on healthier eating since he is exercising with the swim team.

Have you said anything to him about his weight problem? What are his eating habits and exercise regimen like?
