Hi, I am looking for a group of parents who are going through a similar journey. My 10 year old has anxiety and has developed at eating problem. He is wearing 14 H and they are getting too tight. He is 4 8 and 121 pounds. I feel so powerless and like a failure as a parent. I want to help him so that he can feel better about himself. Middle school is on the horizen and I fear those years will destroy him. I hope to connect with some parents here to hopefully gain wisdom and ideas. Thanks. OldMom

One more thing about the anxiety....my son sees a thearapist every 2 weeks, he has done wonders for him. We havent resorted to meds yet because i notice he can "talk" his way out of an anxiety attack.
Remember...self esteam is first! And dont let his weight and anxiety get in the way of being a kid and having fun....he will thank you the most for that!
email me if you'd like to talk some more.....lilestcowgirl@aol.com

My son is also 10 and is 107 pounds..he is just a big dude. He works out and plays football.....That weight and height makes an awesome lineman...put him in sports. Football especialy, its hard work, but the rewards for bing the BIGGEST DUDE out there will pay off. My son Dominates out there.
He also struggles w/ anxiety, but I NEVER let it hold him back. He still to this day throws up before every game...I just tell him, do what you gotta do, and get out there for your team.At the end of the day he walks away with his head held a little higher!

Don't think of yourself as a failure! It sounds like you really care about your son and his future. If you and he think that the over-eating is mostly due to anxiety, perhaps a doctor or mental health professional can help with figuring out ways to reduce his anxiety as well as using something other than food to deal with this negative feeling. I think sometimes you can find parents with similar circumstances in the parent chat room.
