Hello, does any parent have a child that has Acanthosis Nigrican? My son is obese and has this.We will be seeing a specialist in a few weeks. He has a dark ring around his neck.I thought it was just dirt but the more I scrubbed I could see that it was his skin color.I know this has something to do with obesity and was looking for another parent to talk to.

Acanthosis nigrican is a sign of pre-diabetes when insulin in the body is too high because its not working like it should. Insulin is the thing in the body that allows the body to use sugars that you eat. Obesity blocks insulin so the sugar in the blood builds up and gets really high. High blood sugar can cause blindness, kidney failure, and loss of your toes and feet and even your legs. Losing weight will reverse all of this. My daughter had this. She was 260 and lost 55 lb and now hers insulin level is almost normal. Good luck.
