My daughter is 13. She's a size 12 teens. Trys to eat healthy but sometimes gives up. Excercises moslty but is online a lot. She weighs about 155 pounds and is 5'4. I want her to lose at least 25 pounds. I find it hard to do though. She wants to lose it too but she doesn't seem committed. Are there any ways i can help her? Any excercises that she should feel good about? Any ways to get her to lose 2 pounds a week?

rebecca, I understand exactly what you are going through. My daughter is 12 and weighs almost 135 lbs which is how much I weighed when I graduated high school.I have had many conversations with her and have been very sensitive because she is very emotional. My daughters appetite is that of two adults and we cant get her to control it. I know summer is going to be a disaster when she wants to wear a swimsuit especially since she has a 10 year old sister that weighs only 50 lbs. I even suggested to her that we try to lose weight together starting at the first of the year which she seemed open to but yet she is still gorging on food. I am doing everything I can to help her because I know that the teasing has started at school. and we are all concerned health wise for her. So I understand your frustration.

According to the brmi chart your daughter should be not 130 around 86-127.

I think you should plug your figures into a BMI calculator to find out for yourself the overweight verses obese.
While you can't do it for her, if she is really committed to losing, talk to her doctor about a good plan for her. I have my daughter following weight watchers guide of eating. I do weight watchers and her doctor feels its a sensible plan. best of luck

umn...I think some numbers are off...I am only 5' 1" and 140, and I wear a size 9, and I am only at risk of becoming overweight...
according to the BMI calculator I use, your daughter is overweight...but not by alot...

Hi Rebecca, according to BMI, your daughter is classified as obese. It is up to you and her to decide on an excercise schedual and diet and lose weight steadily, as you said '2 pounds a week'. Try excercises such as swimming and cycling. Don't get her involved in team sports, as she may be bullied because of her size. Good Luck!
