Just a little story to share. When my son was 3 he was almost 90 pounds and kids his age only came up to below his chest. So I was advised to take him to a pediatric endocrinologist to have him checked. After the tests were done the doctor said that my son's metabolism was fine and that it did seem that he had a bit of and overgrowth. He was big when he was born 10 pounds and 24 inches long. The funny thing is that the doctor looked at me and said "keep him active, feed him healthy and forget about him having a career as a ballerina because he definitely isn't going to be a ballerina"

I knew that what the doctor was meant that he was never going to a small person even if he lost weight. So I wasn't offended, he was just trying to lighten my mood a bit. My son was over 4 foot tall when he was three so he is big in height and weight. Even now at 13 he is almost 6'3"(just measured his height this weekend).

He (the doctor) meant that her child was never going to have the body of a dancer.

I find that ballerina comment to be absurd. It would have left me scarred for life. Go back to that doctor and ask him what he meant by that.

MD's have one class in nutrition and they do not know how to handle obesity....or few do. Was your son breastfed? Did he start solids early, and did he ever sleep with a bottle or hangout with it?
