My daughter Jen has recently gained a lto of weight. I know its pretty normal to gain about ten pounds a year, but Jen has gained about one hundred and ten pounds within the last six months. Jen refuses to go to the doctor, and had a fit when the nurse weighed her at school in front of her peers. I recieved a call at home from the school nurse notifying me that my daughter was severely overweight at 357 pounds at only five foot one. I was incredibly shocked, as I only weigh about ninety pounds. My daughter sleeps most of the weekends away, and I suspect eats heavily when she gets home from school. I find candy wrappers all over her bedroom and she never exercises. She has told me that she is doing very well in PE and has a small body weight percentage in health class, but after my first call form the nurse, I found it nessesary to look into this. According to her teacher, she did not finish the mile in twenty minutes, she cannot do any pull-ups or push-ups, and finished 6 curl-ups in one minute. I am quite concerned, for I have taken away all the junk food in the house, but she has continued to gain weight and I think that she has been buying junk food at school, and she is eating double lunches from her friends. She has a doctor's appointment scheduled for next week, and I want her to be ready for what the doctor is going to say. I am nervous to exactly call her 'fat' but the word 'slightly overweight' would not do the chunkiness just. Please, some advice? Or should I let her figure it out on her own?

Hi, I weigh 215 lbs. I know how your daughter feels. I would tell her that she is on the heavy side. I would tell her that she is in big risk of getting diabetes. That is not good! She could have all kinds of health problems. I am very scared of that too. I am trying to lose weight. I know it is very hard. You should try to persuade her to get active. Try to buy her some workout tapes and workout with her. Make her feel good. Try to help her as much as you can. *jenna*

Well, the doctors appointment will be perfect timeing. You make sure the doctor tells your daughter she is fat. Not slightly overweight. Make her scared, nervous, and yes a bit self-concious. That will wake her up instantly. From that point on, if she changes, make sure your guide her and help her out. Join activities together, go for walks, or mabye even join a club! My friends son weighed about 220 lbs last year. She got him a nutritionist and he lost 60 lbs and looks wonderful. Not to mention that he eats great now.
