I recomend to you to force your child into a very active activity wether it's sports classes try something competitive studies show that group competitions improve self-esteem it worked for my child she had no self esteem then i gave her a choice but made her chose something and she chose dancing she now lost 50lbs and has great self esteem and is healthy a horse well good luck :)

I wouldn't force your child into doing anything, you might think they like doing it and whatever, but sometimes they don't, I would know my Mother tried to force me to go outside and go play basketball with my brothers, I always hated it, so I finally started eating to get back at her, as did one of my best friends, to this day she still is, and still listening to her mothers pushing and shoving, but me I just quit listing to my mothers "Oh you Victoria are so fat, and need to lose weight" and gone my own way, well I'll tell you that I've lost the most of the weight that I needed to and still need to lose twenty pounds, but I'll tell you, since I quit listening to my mothers mean words, I've picked up volleyball, running and horseback riding, and I'll tell you I'm probally one of the happiest people in the world, and I hope my mom sees that.

I know this is for parents, but I couldn't resist posting. For many years my mom tried to force me into weight loss things, sports, diets, etc. I always went along but didn't do anything really. I was about 13 years old when i was getting teased. i was giving a report in the front of the class and a boy leaned to his friend and whispered "where's the board?" It was then that i realized i need to take charge of my diet. after 8 years of my parent's forcing me onto diets, i finally started one of my own and lost 25 pounds and I got an A in p.e.
