Hello everyone. We went to the dietician today. We relearned some things we knew and learned new things. I wanted to share a few of the ideas we learned today. It will be hard for many children to make these changes and hard as parents to make the changes with them. The dietician said it will not work if the whole family does not do it together. I hope this will help some of you. The most important thing is portion controll. We tend to poor and not measure out our foods. This is a big factor in gaining weight. Also any thing that is fat free or light (mayo, salad dressing, yogurt) is good for our kids. One coke a day adds 15 pounds in a year! Diet anything or sugar free anything cuts the calories and help keep the pounds off, along with 1% milk. We are trying splenda as a sugar substitute on cerals and in unsweetened tea. For lunch Amanda will take baked chips (15 is portion), Lean ham on wheat bread with fat free mayo, and No cheese. When Amanda eats a cheese sandwich it will be fat free cheese. For snacks she suggested any one of the following: half a bagel with peanut butter, one 8 oz. yogurt, any fruit, or 1 serving of chips. The best way to deal with the chips is to put 15 chips in individual baggies until the big bag is gone. Then you have a serving size ready. Lucky for me Amanda loves diet cokes, peanut butter and wheat bread. This will not be a big deal other than controlling portions and snacking. One way to find out how good something is is to: hold up 1 finger for every 50 calories (100 is 2, 400 is 8, ect) then look at the fat and if you have equal or less fingers than the fat it is is good for your child. If you have a lot more fat than fingers they should only eat the portion allowed. If you change the eating habits and you include some activity to help stimulate the body. You are should be able to lose weight. I went tonight and bought all new fat free stuff and diet stuff. Amanda is very excited as we start "our change of lifestyle" we do not call this a diet. I will let you all know how Amanda is fairing with all the new changes. I hope you all find the help you are looking for. Many blessing to all you and your brave children.

I wish you all the best!! We've tried changing eating patterns and cutting back on the pepsi and junk. It seems to be working some, but sometimes it's like pushing a boulder uphill. But you just keep up the good work. My oldest son, who doesn't have any weight issue, doesn't seem to have even noticed..Ha ha. Just as long as there's meals, he just eats and doesn't say a word. Maybe he thinks I just became a forgetful Mom..Ha ha...Keep up the good work

Just want to say what a wounderful and supportive mother and father! Also, just woundering, how is your other child handling this change?
