I am sure most parents are doing their best to help their children. No-one needs or appreciates critisism.
People have also got to understand that a weight issue is more then nutrition, or lack of it, and it's more then exercise, or lack of it. Carrying excessive weight is a way to protect oneself from the outer world. People literally hide inside of their bodies because they are afraid of what they see outside of them. I agree w/ Matt(child's age:4) 99% all of the way! He is right in a way. Parents should watch their children and what they eat. But parents can't be with them 24 hours a day and 7 days a week! What about school, field trips, going out w/ friends, camp, whenever their away from home? There are still many ways they can get there hands on food. There friends can buy it, or even they can have money even if there parents don't give it to them or from allowences. I'm not saying to stop giving them allowences but there are many ways to get there hands on food. Both ways make sence.

Yeah but when you read some messages it makes me mad - all this "my kid eats junk all day & sits about" - where are they getting the junk from? Mom & Dad! Who's letting them sit about all day? Mom & Dad! Whatever your kid weighs no parent should let them stuff their faces, eat only junk & never exercise. That's called being a bad parent. Parents have a duty to look after their child's health & taking them to McD's every day & feeding them vast amounts is *not* looking after your kids' health. A child of 10 shouldn't be choosing what to eat and how much, they should be *given* it and *told* what it is by a parent who cares to give them more than burgers and fries. No kid gets to 300lbs without their parents' overfeeding them. In this country it's called child abuse.
