help! my daughter is almost 7 - 4'2" and around 80-85 lbs. she is pretty active which is good because i'm afraid she would be heavier still if she wasn't active. my problems are 1) how to help her lose weight and 2) how to help her be happy - she claims she can't run fast because she's "too fat", she wants to wear cute, trendy clothes...i can't find any "plus" size CUTE clothing for her. any help, advice, anything would be appreciated! i haven't been on the site before - i've just been hoping it was baby fat that she would outgrow and it's not happening thank you.

hello, my daughter is 100 lbs and it breaks my heart;i remember when i was in school and got teased; it hurts; lets be honest ; it hurts them and it hurts us; she is aware that she needs to lose weight;i've been in deniel for about four years saying its just baby fat it will fall off;well its now eight years and it still has not fallen off;ive realized that know it is my responsibilty to take the situation under control and teach my daughter to become a healtier person;it is possible with Gods help and with everyone in the family taking part;become more active of course;we as parents are to lead by example. i have two daughters; my oldest 8 who looks exactly like her mom and i have also a 3 year old that looks exactly like her dad and the both of them (my youngest and my husband) they can eat a whole cow and not gain one pound;i thank God for both of my beautiful girls; we have a long hard road ahead;i know that everything will be alright; you have to start somewhere; and dont give up;stay positive; everyday is a new day and if you have to keep starting over that okay too!
FYI my daughter is a 10 in misses; i found out tht the capri pants fits her perfect;she is in a school that they can not wear short well the capri pants in walmart are perfect;she has a large tummy;they look excellent on her;really cool clothes;just a fyi;please reply back if you have some pointers anyone;also if there is an eight year old little girl who wanted to talk to my daughter as a email pal that would be great;supervised of course;pls pls email talk to ya later

Hi Jody, I can understand where you are coming from. My daugher is 6 (almost 7) and is 4ft 1in and weights 76 lbs. Most of it is her tummy! She also wants to wear the "cool" clothes but they look silly on her. So it is very hard. Some of the kids are starting to pick on her, and i feel so bad. We have been trying to watch what she eats and making her exersise more.

At 7 she still has a lot of time to outgrow the baby fat. It doesn't sound to me like she has too much of a problem, just maybe keep an eye on it.
To help her lose weight at that age is actually very easy. Just try and ensure she doesn't eat too much food that is high in fat, try and buy low-fat versions of her favourite foods, lots of fruit, try and get her to drink lots of water. You say she is active, which is good. Some kids just hate any exercise at all. You may well find that as she gets taller she slims out and the weight just redistributes.
Clothes are a tricky one. In the UK the fashionable clothes shops don't seem to cater for bigger kids that want to be fashionable. I always used to end up getting bigger sizes and then trying to alter the bits that didn't fit properly. You will just have to hunt around. I found one particular shop had clothes that always seemed to fit her. Maybe the cut was more generous.
