crunches are easier when you dont touch you elbows o your thighs. works pretty much the same

That's not true. I've heard both ways of doing crunches. It doesn't really matter where your legs are. A sit-up is when you go all the way up, touching your elbows to your thighs. A crunch, you just go far enough to get your shoulder blades off the ground, trying not to curve the back.
