Hi! My name is Emily. I'm 5 ft, 2 in and am currently 197 lbs. I've always been overweight; I remember being in 1st grade and being insecure about it. A few months ago when I was clothes shopping, I realized that I could barely find any pants that would fit me (size 17), and all I wanted to do was cry. As for the tops, I haven't been able to fit into tops from the junior section since I was in elementary school. I want to lose weight, not to be be pretty or to be attractive or anything like that, but to just be normal. I hate shopping because nothing I like fits, and I'm tired of constantly wearing baggy t-shirts. I've been trying for over a year to get my mother to schedule an appointment with a doctor so that I may discuss a healthy and permanent way for me to lose weight (I'd like to be a size 10-12). The problem is that she still hasn't. It really hurts because I feel like my family looks at me and thinks, "She is overweight. This is her problem, and she needs to fix it by herself." (My brother was varsity soccer captain and m.v.p. in high school, my sister is literally a size 0, and my mom doesn't have any weight issues. To be honest, I am more physically active than my siblings, and I watch what I eat a lot better, though I still slip up all the time.) I am so motivated to do this, but no one wants to help me, and I talk openly about it with my mom all the time. I can't do this alone. Any suggestions?

By the way, if you feel comfortable being buddies with someone who has the same amount of weight to lose as you, don't feel obliged to buddy with me. I promise I won't be hurt, I know it's sometimes easier to relate when you are around the same weight.

hey, do you wanna be diet buddies? I'm 15 and I weigh 141 and I am hoping to get down to 125. Although you have more weight to lose, I feel like we're going through the same problems, and we could help each other out. By the way, being diet buddies just means like emailing each other and talking to each other about our efforts and weighing in each week and telling each other. I feel like I just really need someone to confide in, and to have someone I have to tell if I slip. It will help me keep on track. I do Weight watchers, so I don't count calories (i count points) but if you're not doing Weight watchers it doesn't matter. But if you're still trying to pick a diet plan i REALLY advise looking into it. There have been thousands of studies that show that WW is one of hte only "diets" (it's not a diet really, it's a lifestyle change) that lets people lose significant amounts of weight and KEEP it off forever. It simply emphasizes balanced, healthy eating and exercise. And no foods are off limits. well anyways, if you're interested in being my diet buddy, you can post back here, or send me an email at Hayleyjean@aol.com. Thanks for listening!

Wow. I can completely see your success story in the future. If you go to the doctor, you can discuss some great diet plans and get help. Right now, I know that cardio will be the best thing for you. In fact, I do Tae bo w/ Billy Blanks (it's a DVD). maybe you've heard of it, but it's such a great way to lose weight. I know how you feel with the clothes shopping issue, I used to really hate it too. But if you burn more calories than you eat, you'll lose weight. I suggest a 1200 calorie a day plan.

well, you can call the doctor yourself. just say that you are have eating and diet questions and that you'd like to talk to someone about it, and they'll schedule an appointment for you. Also, maybe try joining a gym or going on walks with your friends. if you have any friends who are overweight, suggest being diet buddies. go on walks together, and support eachother in sticking to a healthy diet.
