Hi,I am obviously not a teenager, but my niece is and she is overweight (5'1", 200lbs). I want to help her lose weight. I love her and feel like she is just trapped inside her body. I will do whatever it takes.Problem: She isn't at all motivated. Her mother buys lots of junk food, pizza, soda, etc. and won't listen.Do you have any advice for me? Sorry if I'm posting where I don't belong, but I believe you people are the best source of info for this problem. Will you help? Thanks.

Weight Watchers? Has anyone tried this? Some of my adult friends have had some success with it, but I dont know how a teenage would do. I am guessing that all the weight control groups (jenny craig, etc) are about the same, and there is a Weight Watchers meeting place very near home. Whaddya think? Also, I am buying Jay McGraw's book today and will read that this weekend. Thank you very much for your input!

tell her mother that she is killing her child. It's true. She is.

well, I still am overweight, so idunno if I should be talking, but whats really helped so far for getting me back on track is not buying the junk food in the first place. if all there is in the fridge are condiments, veggies, and milk, and in the cubboards theres only cereal and pasta and such, I really don't overeat as much at all, unless my brothers buy their junk and i have a bunch too. so yeah, convince her mom to stop buying pizza; I know that food is comforting but there are healthy types of food that are comforting too.

so you don't really tell her that shes overweight you can go to her house and say hey wanna go for a walk i think it would be fun for just you and me to talk,or,jogging,or,if you belong to a gym invite her and say it might be fun! if she says something like "do you think i am fat" or "are you asking me to do this with you because you think i am overweight" say no i'm sorry i just thought it would be nice for you and me to spend some time together but if you don't want to , i understand! hope i helped and good luck!

try talking to her mother(without you neice knowing). tell her mother that her daughter is at severe risk for diebeties and her daughter could die from it. that'll work. if it doesnt, you take responsibility for your nieces weight.i used to be unmotivated,so i went to the mall and bought this really cool pant light blue cargo. the only problem i couldnt fit into it. then i started crying, and thinking no boy was ever going to like me. then i realized if i didnt lose weigt then my whole life would would be spent away looking wistfully at clothes that i know i could never fit in. then i started eating right and excercising. (still kept the pants for motivation.)Guess what i lost 20 pounds and i fit in those pants.i still have to lose 20 more pounds though, piece of cake.(no pun intended):)when i started failing miserably on my excercise daily and eat right i printed of a picture of orlando bloom:))and paul walker::))soo cute!!! then i thought, what if they ever saw me would they think hey that looks hot and shes not half naked like britney spears, or that girl looks miserable and she doesnt take care of herself.if you want to talk to me my e-mail address is harryronhermoine@yahoo.com. I think it is really great that you care so much about your neice.i wish i had an aunt like you.Hope I helped!!!!!!
