Well I've been on a diet and have already lost a reasonably good amount of weight and fat, but when I was really overweight I felt awfull. If I had to go up a size in pants because of my thighs, I wanted to cry. If I got to school and had to weigh for the bmi test, I wanted to hide under a rock. I felt so bad because I was one of the 25 percent of American youths overweight, and it was hard to realize I was one of them . If I heard on a news program how more people were overweight, I would feel my heart sink. This might be how your friend feels.

And by the way 3,500 calories equals approximately one pound, so if you burned 700 a day (without overeating) you would lose about a pound and 1,400 calories per week. 1-3 pounds per week is a good amount to lose, and you are less likely to gain it back that way. Hope this helps.

Ok, lena. Think of it this way. If you didn't burn more than you took in, and if you burned the same amount you took in, you would stay the same. If you took in more you would gain weight. And you still have energy, when you get thinner its using your fat reserves to burn for energy. That's how you get rid of excess fat. And all those facts are true but you kind of ended it with a bit of anger, I might say. And the problem isn't always that people are being "lazy", there can be genetic problems like a slow metabolism or underactive thyroid.

But mr, if you're burning MORE calories than you are taking in, how are going to benefit your body? Thin is not everything, you should be healthy, too. So if you're burining more than you take in, what does your body use for energy? Wouldn't you be tired all the time? I think that the best thing to do, for young kids, is just watch what they eat and be more active. It's been proven that (american) kids today are fatter than they were 30 years ago and it's because of a lack of activity in their lives. Our parents when they were young were always outside, not in front of the TV snacking. They were always busy, and moving so that's why they weren't fat kids. I think if kids today weren't so lazy and they got up and moved around more, stopped worrying about what people said about them and what kind of diet, (which by the way are very bad for kids), they should try, there would be so many overweight mopey kids and teenagers. GET UP AND OUT!!

Thanks. Nice to know someone thinks I'm helpful ^_^ But the technical way you lose weight is by burning more calories than you take in. So that method would probably work, but just remember you must burn more than you eat. And by the way healthy diet, according to experts, should have a one or two snacks between meals to keep your energy up. Good luck ^_^
