Ht. 5'6", Start: 225 lb, Today: 225 lb (BMI %tile: 98), Goal: 225 lb - I used to use this site for weight loss help and such, but over the past couple of years I've actually become pretty ill. I gained a lot of weight, which at this point I will not be able to lose (on a lot of medications that cause weight gain, as well as more often than not so stiff and in so much pain I can barely walk, so eating right alone isn't enough, and nothing else is currently possible for me). It's really hard to deal with, especially the lack of control. I can't remember a time when I didn't feel like I was too big, but gaining 100 pounds in four years due to things that came with me getting sick (which comes with a plethora of other challenges as well) has been more than a little difficult for me. Despite it not being any fault of my own, I do get made fun of for it. And it's just hard to be heavy, period, in today's world. I can never find clothes that fit properly. I never look good anymore. So I suppose I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to keep one's self-esteem up, despite being heavy. I'm at my wit's end struggling with my self-loathing that is mostly due to my size. I'm not really sure how much longer I can go on like this, so I need some help figuring out how to handle it...

hi maddison.
i am just starting out on my weightloss, and it can be really hard. i hope that you would be able to find ways here and there just to change things up a little bit, even if losing weight isnt in a realistic goal at the moment. when you can eat and dont feel like it might come back up, try and have some vegetables or fruit, even yoghurt, something that will go down eatier than others. i know i dont know about your situation, but if you would like to talk im here:) i hope you find ways to stay happy, and get stronger. love em

@Katie- Thanks for the advice. But mostly the reason I don't eat if I ever miss meals is because I'm ill... either in a lot of stomach pain or puking every five minutes. which happens a lot. Also can't really manage walks anymore, and I don't have any friends because I missed my whole high school experience and everyone forgot about me.
@Launa- The medicine I'm on is causing some of it, but there is nothing that can be done. And I do things like that when I can (lifting weight I can't do well... stiff joints make it hard to do anything that requires continually moving them), but bottom-line is, I can't lose weight right now. No matter what I do. I probably couldn't lose much even if I could exercise because the issues causing it are metabolic due to medications and health problems. So currently I'm kind of stuck with this...

Girlie, i know how ya feel. I can be lazy as hell. Talk to doc. That medicine you r on can be causing that. and if u cant walk, u can sit. there is such thing as sit and b fit. lifting weights, cracking out those resistance bands can really help. when u can stand, do low impact excersises. I recommend Fat burning work out for dummies (dvd). its really cool. i lost 8 pounds in a month just by doing the first 12 minutes!
Good luck!!!!!

Hey Madison,
I'm 21 years old and have the same struggles that you seem to have. The most important thing I can say is to keep your chin up! I also have a very negative self image, and it's been this way for awhile. I'll tell you the things that have worked for me and maybe you'll be able to find one that you can use too!
1. Daily affirmations. It might be weird at first, but it helps! I bought a CD that helps with weight loss through guided imagery and affirmations that I listen to once a day (at night when I go to bed). I can give you the name of the CD, but you could also just put sticky notes around your house or room, in your cupboards, etc. Every time you see them, repeat them to yourself and eventually you'll start to believe them (I promise!). I'm sure you could find a list online that you could start off with.
2. Try to think of food as energy for your body, instead of attaching an emotional component to it. Don't go for chips when you're sad, go for a walk with a friend!
3. Be patient. Remember that you didn't put all of the weight on in a week, so it won't come off in a week. Try for 1-2 pounds a week, and within a year I bet you'll be at your goal weight.
4. EAT! One of the things I used to do was that I wouldn't eat until dinner time, and thats when I'd do all of my snacking too. Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. Otherwise, your body goes into starvation mode and since it doesn't know when you'll eat next, it holds onto all of the fat and calories that you eat later on in the day.
Good luck! I know you can do it :)
