Ht. 5'5.5", Start: 181 lb, Today: 181 lb (BMI %tile: 94), Goal: 120 lb - 131.8 omggggggg I need help! :( I haven't exercised for two weeks straight and I have been eating late night meals and sweets. I don't know whats going on. I use to have the ability to say NO and not even crave it. But now I don't know whats going on with my body's chemistry. Had this happen to you before? If so, what did you do to overcome this barrier? I'm thinking about getting on those dietary shakes that suppress your hunger... because its 1am right now and I just downed two large pizzas, chocolate, coke, and one slice of cheese cake. I am completely and utterly disgusted with myself! I hardly ever even eat this much :( Whats GOING ON WITH ME!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! HELP!!

Congratulations on losing 50 lbs! That is a *huge* accomplishment! That, in and of itself, is motivation for everyone on this site. As you well know, there are no "magic bullets", shakes, or pills to help you lose weight. It's all about eating in moderation and getting enough physical exercise. I don't know where you live but now that it is spring, try to go for walks and enjoy the sun and blooming flowers. Try to get a family member or friend to commit to walking a few times a day to keep you motivated. As for food, try to take advantage of all of the summer produce. If you're having a sugar craving - how about some strawberries and yogurt? Don't forget your journal! If you realize that you are having sugar or junk food cravings every day at 4pm for example, you might find that you're tired or cranky after school and need some fresh air. Often times, you might be thirsty so always keep a water bottle around you. Keep your head up!

Hey Amy! Thank you so much for your insightful tips! It reallly means a lot to me! I lost 50 pounds, starting from 181 and currently 131. However, I know I did NOT hit a plateau because I can still lose weight... but I'm just losing the motivation to exercise and on top of that I can not control my cravings! I would just continuously hit junk when I'm not hungry! Do you think it's my body chemistry? And also, I was wondering if you could please recommend any healthy shakes that suppress my hunger. Thank you!!!

Hi Stace, My name is Amy and I'm a graduate student researcher working with adolescents who want to lose weight. First of all, you are NOT ALONE! The teenage years are incredibly difficult for anyone - both physically and emotionally. I would highly recommend that you start a journal to write down (or take photos) of everything you put into your mouth. Take note of the time of day, how much you are eating, why you ate it, and how full you feel at the end of the meal or snack. This will help you notice what your eating patterns are and if there are any specific times or day or feelings you might have that cause you to eat unhealthy food or a higher quantity of food. Start with small things- be more aware of what you are eating and when and try to start walking a little bit every day. Take stairs instead of elevators, stretch or stand up while watching television, etc. Don't expect massive changes at the beginning- at this point you want to instill healthy habits that will stick with you forever. I hope this helps! Don't get discouraged - you have lots of support on this website and in your everyday life. Just keep your eyes open so you know where to find it. Good luck!
