Ht. 5'3", Start: 362 lb, Today: 384 lb, Goal: 120 lb - Okay, so everyone who read my last post and gave advice thanks. Just so you know, I've tried to get her to change her eating habits slightly and I've talked to my mom, but Jessie won't budgeon that. I didn't think it was possible, but I can tell now that she is noticibly eating much more than she usually does. And here's the kicker... she went to the doctor yesterday, and she's up 22 pounds from her last weigh in, which was a little less than three months ago. And the doctor talked to my mom about her weight, but I think it just went in one ear and out the other, seeing as afterwards we went to McDonald's and Jessie ate a ridiculous amount. And the docotrs visit was such an ordeal. Just walking into the building had Jessica panting like a dog, and red in the face. She is so UNBELIEVEABLY out of shape. And she definitely turned some heads out in public. You can't ignore someone that big. I feel so bad. I'll continue trying to work something out, but right now it feels like Jessica will most definitely reach 400 before I can do anything. Since she's eating a lot, even for her, and she's having more and more trouble moving I feel indefinitely those last 18 pounds will just pile on, mayb within the next months or two. I just hope that she'll still be able to walk. I'm trying to prepare myself for her reaching 400 pounds, but if she can't walk it will just tear me apart. And I know her weight has already taken world's biggest toll on her. She lost her last few friends this year, because she's not much fun to have aroun really. She's to big to play games, and even walking around a mall or shopping center has been out of the question for awhile. My mom is going to homeschool her this coming year, because her last school year was so terribly difficult. I pray that maybe I can help her. But all that seems to be happening, despite my effort, is Jessica getting fatter and fatter and fatter. I don't think there is anything I can do to stop it...

First of all, to Sammi: I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not going to make my sister a joke. Think of all the people who watch that stuff just for a laugh or to make themselves feel better. I would never do that to her.
And yea, I could try writing her a letter. That's not a bad idea... but she's 12 and kinda sensitive, so I need to be careful what I say.

I wouldn't worry about exercising too much, but eventually you can check out chairdancing.com. Next, I recommend going to http://book.hungry-girl.com/ to check out this awesome cookbook full of easy recipes from a great company called Hungry Girl. It's full of swaps to regular fatty foods, everything from junk to breakfast to dessert to burgers and everything in between. All of the food in the book tastes awesome and she won't even know it's lower calorie (honestly, they stuff just THAT awesome!) if you make it without showing it to her. She would loose weight painlessly! Also, try checking out sodas like Coke Zero if she's hooked on soda becuase it tastes like the regular stuff by calorie free. Just make simple swaps and all that. Also, how is her body image? If it's bad, check out this book called Bobbi Brown Teenage Beauty. If she can learn to like herself loosing weight will be easier. I seriously pray for you and Jessie. Best wishes, Jeremy!

So, I have some ideas. I know you can't do munch about her diet. But for snacks you could make a heathly snack that you know she will like (maybe like a grape, cheese cube an apple on a tooth pick like mini kababbs) tell her your not hungrey want this snack. Just be on the look out if she has had alot already. For her excerise its not fun to walk or ride a bike so ask her if she would like to go to the mall with you (walking around the mall is usally fun to a girl) Also i under stand that she can't go a long time walking but there are places you can stop and rest. Hope some of this helps! good luck to you and your sis

You really need to talk to your mom about this, she has the power to do something about it. If talking doesn't help then shouting is the next step, whatever it takes to save your sister.

Maybe you can try writing to Dr. Phil or Oprah or someone that does weight loss interventions so she can get some help.

I think it would be perfect if you signed her up for a fun and active activity. Also when you go grocery shopping for groceries try to find lower calorie snacks and no calorie drinks. It should help lower her caloric intake by a few hundred which will help her lose weight.
