Ht. 5'3", Start: 145 lb, Today: 130 lb (BMI %tile: 89), Goal: 110 lb - I've been eating only 1,000 calories a day and exercising (biking, jogging, swimming) 3 to six miles a day but have stayed at my same weight for the whole summer. I am eating no junk food and having lots of water and salads. Why am I not losing weight?

It's may sound weird but eat more loose more. Have breakfast (2 waffles and a yogurt?) snack (yogurt?) lunch (1 egg with a side of strawberries and cucumbers?) snack (yogurt?) supper (spaghetti and meatballs?) bedtime snack (oatmeal with sliced banana on top)
Add 2 cups of water to everything and eat like that for a while play at the park, go biking and for extreme cases if you have a wii buy wii fit. It's amazing how much weight you loose by playing a game on the wii.

also, muscle doesn't actually weigh more than fat, its an old myth. look it up. but it does however, weigh as much as a pound of fat. even though 1 lbs of muscle looks a lot smaller than 1 pound of fat.

your body may of gone into starvation mode and is storing all your fat because you haven't been eating enough calories for your height and weight. you should be eating around 1,500 calories each day and exercising a lot and eventually, it will come down and stay down. but make sure that 1,500 calories your putting into your body is good for it. your not going to be very healthy with a diet of two cheeseburgers and a diet coke even though they may still be under 1,500 calories. you may also need to eat more vegetables or protein (such as chicken breast, nuts, and fish) to help make you feel more full and keep you energized. try eating wholesome, high nutrient less procesed foods and don't give up.

You might of hit a plateau (a stop in weight loss). Each pound you lose, your metabolism gets weaker. To overcome this try to drink lots and lots of water. Your doing a good job with your excersize. Plus you might be losig but just not noticing it. Try to weight yourself every morning without eating and after going to the bathroom. Lots of luck to you!

Well, I'm not overweight, but everyday I come here to give kids who are or who feel uncomfortable about their weight advice. First off, you are doing great at exercising! 3 to 6 miles a day is more than I can handle, so you should be proud! Also muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are exercising it may or may not help you lose weight! Good luck Sophia!

I tried counting calories myself, but apparently it doesn't work for everyone. Keep up the exercising though! also try to get your protein in there. Meat keeps you full for a longer time. Good luck!
