...HEAT: Heat is very dangerous and even deadly at times epsecially in the south and central plains. During the summer a typical weather setup occours where an upperlevel ridge ( stong high pressure) develops across the plains and a very strong cap ( warm dry layer in the atmosphere) develops and making any cloud development impossible. Temeratures go to the extremes in this strongly capped ewnvironment too. Temeratures up to the 110Fs and heat indexees ( how the temperature feels to the human body) into the 120Fs have occoured before. (This heat can occour further north and east into the Southeast and Midwest) Overworking your body in this deadly heat can cause heat stroke that can kill you. Heat stroke is most common in the elderly and in infants, however, overweight teens who work out in this extreme heat are likely to have a heat stroke. If the National Weather Service issues a dangerous heat watch or warning for your area, avoid outdoor exercise. If outdoors drink pleanty of water ands take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioned rooms. Heat kills alot of people each year, follow these rules and you wont be next! LIGHTENING: A big killer. During the summer, if your atmosphere isnt capped, thunderstorms can pop-up out of no where and can put you in a dangerous lightening situation if outside. Lets say your out away from home and out playing ball with your friends. Suddenly you hear a big clap of thunder and above you is a towering cloud that you havent even noticed before. Since you are far from home and no shelter is around, you could easily get struck by lightening. When you are in this type of situation, DO NOT take shelter under a tree, that can make you a bullseye target. Crouch down on the ground, DO NOT LAY FLAT! Put your head down as far as you can and cover it with your hands. Make sure no trees or other objects are close to you. LIGHTENING CAN STIKE TWICE IN THE SAME PLACE!! The forest book is wrong. Lightening CAN strike in the same place more than once. Stay in your position until the storm passes. Lightening can strike up to 10 miles away from the storm! If you see lightening or hear thunder, go take shelter in a building or if no shelter is available, get into your position. Lightening claims many lives each year, follow these rules and you wont be one of them. Thats all for now! Ill have more saftey rules to keep you all safe later! Have a great summer!
