drinking water is a good tip but drink it cold as your body will use calories to heat it up to body tempurature, but drinking more water will not make you look fatter, it will just make you want to go to the toilet more often, water retention does not depend on the amount you drink, to make sure that its not a problem drink two table spoons of apple cider vinegar diluted in water each day, it taste awful but it will remove any excess water, vitamin c, vitamin B6, kelp and rose hip tea have the same effect.
